I have two loads for my Rem 721, both of which aren’t top velocities but both will put four shots between 3/4-1”. It seems to like loads in the 2900 fps range.

64 grs of H-4350, a 180 Partition, Fed215, Hornady brass at 4.018 b-o (base to ogive with my Hornady gauge) for 2900 fps +/- 10fps

56 grs of IMR 4166, a 165 A/bond or 168 B/Tip, CCI 250, Nosler brass at 4.018 b-o for 2925 +/- 15

I shoot the Barnes 165 TTSX in my Remington 300 Win mag 5R. They are very accurate. I just got a 300 Weatherby, I’m going to try the 150 TTSX in it.

When Barnes went away from the flat base bullets I could never get them to shoot. I never did get any Barnes bullets to shoot in my 340 Wby. I'll bet Randy Brooks gave me 300 bullets trying to find something to work. Just never happened.

I am loading up a bunch of X bullets in my 458 Lott. We'll see how they do. Maybe they will over penetrate!

63.0gr of R17, Fed215, WW brass and 180gr Partition (2nds from the Shooter's Pro Shop) has been very accurate in my M70XTR. I'll get just a bit over 3000fps with that load.

Other than Barnes, I haven't had very many bullets and loads directly out of the Hornady or Nosler loading books that don't shoot exceptionally well with H4831, H4350 at close to max. I've tried Aframes, Partitions, Hunting BT's, Hornady Spire Points and Interlocks, and a few others and the only ones I could never get to shoot well were the Barnes in my H&H and in my 338 for that matter. Nothing really wrong with that as I've had excellent on game results with Noslers and Aframes- not quite as much with the Hornadies- but the accuracy has always been superb ...

I use 200 Grain Nosler partitions and H4831.
I have a tight chamber on my custom Mauser, and I also have a 27" barrel so I load about 1 grain under listed max, but my chronograph shows I am getting 2865 FPS average.
These loads do all I could ask for from any 300 mag on every game animal I have used it for. Very accurate, fly well to the maximum distanced I will shoot game, and kill very well, giving good sized wound channels and exits.

Personally I have no reason to try anything else.

How does your brass hold up with that load? I have a pre64 M70 that loves 71 gr H4831 with 200 gr Partitions but primer pockets start to loosen up after a couple of firings so I've backed down to 70 gr.

I hope not but I have a half dozen boxes of 500 grain Barnes X bullets in 458 caliber. What else am I to do with them? I suspect they will work wonderful on buffalo and eland.

I ended up loading 450 grain TSXs instead. I think at 2360 fps they will kill impalas...

LOL, oops, old thread, I listed a book load of 72 grs H-4831 for the 200 gr Sierra BTHP because this is the long range hunting forum, I worked up that load for a bud many moons ago in his re-chambered Ruger #1, the 200 gr Sierra BTHP has much less bearing surface than the 200 gr Partitions, I use 70 grs H-4831 in my old 300 H&H's with the 200 gr NPT's in WW brass lit with FED-215's.

No problems with brass at that level, without my load book handy and IIRC, I use 67 gr H-4831 with the 220 gr NPT's for 2750 fps, a hell of a fun, accurate, and hard killing load through my pre-64 standard rifle with an old Lyman receiver sight, 200 yard animals and 300 yard steel is pure cake.

Exactly the load I use in my 300 WSM. Well, almost. Mine pushes the 168-gr TTSX at 3075.

I shot 14 or 15 head of game with my 300 H&H the past 2 weeks. I used mostly 150 grain Partition golds behind N560 at 3260 fps. I also took a box of 150 TSX loaded over 74 grains of H4831 SC. I used them to cull hartebeests and too a warthog and gemsbok. All were pass-throughs.

Collected 3 bullets total. I shot an eland with a 450 grain Swift A-frame at 40 yards. DRT. The bullet didn't exit but the skinners didn't find my bullet (too lazy I guess).
