I have a .270-308 Remington 700 Classic early �80�s model for sale. I bought this locally from a guy off Gunbroker. It is basically a 700 Classic in .243 that was rebarrled from a barrel taken off a .270 Remington 700 Classic. Here is the story. The guy I bought this from is the son of the gentleman that put this rifle together. The gentleman wanted a 338-06. He ordered a brand new 700 Classic in 270. He had the 270 factory 700 Classic barrel taken off and a custom .338 barrel installed to get his 338-06. He then took that .270 barrel and had that installed on his 700 Classic in .243 to get the 270-308. Here are the particulars on the rifle; it has the standard 700 Classic stock and barrel contour and blued finish. It is a 1980�s vintage. The barreled action has been bedded and the barrel floated. The barrel has been shortened to 21.5� and the muzzle was recrowned. The trigger has been adjusted and it breaks very clean and crisp. As pictured with the bases & rings the rifle weighs 6 lbs. 14.6 ozs. I was told who the gunsmith was that did this work on the rifle but I can not remember his name. I do remember the son said he has passed away some years ago and was from VA. This rifle is in great shape and may be a lights out shooter. It seems put together extremely well. The son never shot it and he said his Dad killed a few deer with it but never shot it that much as his Dad preferred his 338-06. I never shot the rifle at all.  I comes with the group D RCBS die set and some load notes I got when I bough this rifle and Leupold bases & rings. I hate to move this one with out every trying to see what it will do at the range but with career time constraints and having 3 girls I just do not have the time to devote to working up loads and experimenting. This would be sooooo cool with 85 grain TSX's or 95 grain TTSX's! Hmmm, and I think that Noz makes a 110 NAB  90 Hp's and 100-110s would hammer varmints also....alot of options.

How do you shoot a short action round (.243 case) in a long action (.270 win) chamber? Seems the brass would come out awfully funny looking and the bullet would be jumping?? Not trying to crap on your ad, but am I missing something here?

the .270 take off barrel was re-chambered to the 270-308 wildcat cartridge.

Subtract the cost of the dies, action, and stock alone...not much money for the 270-08 bbl/work, etc. vs building...as most know.

yipper this could be a lot of fun and a really cool lil rig and I dont reckon this will be around long and a free bump for the cool 270/08..........
broken bones broken heart stripped down an torn apart a lil rust but Im still runnin countin miles countin tears twisted roads and shiftin gears year after year its all or nothin Im not home and Im not lost just holdin on 2 what I got...God and Guns

one would assume that it was shortened from the rear and rethreaded yeah and a bunch at that, I would think over .5" would have to be cutt off the shank of the barrel for a 308 reamer to clean up a 270 win chamber, from the looks of the pics unless the stock has been changed I would expect to see some gapping in the barrel channel, which I don't. I would double check to see if that is really what you have.

I thought the same thing. If you look very closely, it appears the bedding goes out 4 or 5 inches and then you can see that the barrel is free-floated a tad more than normal. DOesn't look bad at all. At least that is what my eyes are seeing.
