I have an unblooded Bob and a goodly supply of 100 grain bullets, both the Sierra 100 BTSP and Remington PSPCL's. Of the seasoned Roberts veterans out there, will 100 grain bullets hold together if the range is short? Last year my closest shot was 25 feet, though where I hunt (Ontario farm country), ranges can be to 250 yards. I'm not too big a cheapskate to buy some 115 or 120 Partitions or something, but that rifle shoots cloverleaves with the 100's, and I have a hundred-odd bullets just gathering dust. All opinions welcome!

I've shot a couple of deer with the Hornady 100 gr. PSP. The bullet performed very well. These were flat bottom bullets.

I worry the Sierra BT may shed its jacket more readily than the Remmys, therefore, I would choose the PSP from the two bullet you offer.

I'm sure either one, well placed, will have no trouble with a deer, although I am a strong proponent of premium bullets. I don't see any reason to step up to a 115 or 120 gr. premium bullet.

I'll bet those core lock will be just fine at Bob speeds.

I've shot deer clean through the shoulder with 100gr Hornadys @ 2900-3000fps as close as 40yds. The PSPs should handle it.

I have a M700 Classic in 257 Roberts. I have shot the 100 gr PSPCL bullets with 45.0 grs IMR4350 for a MV well over 3000 fps and excellent accuracy. The 100 gr PSPCL bullet held together going through several water jugs. I will do the job on WT Deer. If you have any doubts, try the 100 gr Nosler PT. Same load shoots well under 1 MOA.
The 100 gr BT will drop WT Deer in their tracks, exit hole on broadside lung shots. This bullet will shoot in the .5" if I do my part.

I no longer have a .257 but did use a Remington 700 Classic for a number of years. On one of my first hunts with it I used 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips. I took one animal with those and was so disappointed I fired the rest into paper and never bought any more Ballistic Tips ( of any caliber!) At the time I used 120 gr. Nosler Solid Base bullets & Hornady 120 H.P's.
If I was to go back to using a .257 again I would probably use 115 gr. Partitions. The partitions work up close and at extended ranges. For the few you will use hunting don't worry about the cost. The reason I quit using the .257 was that I no longer travelled to Wy. to hunt deer & antelope. At home now the majority of my whitetail hunting is where I have to use either a shotgun or muzzleloader.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I went to my local gun range today to do some shooting, and while I was there I picked up a box of 110 gr. Nosler Interbonds. Should be just the ticket. I'll save the remmys for my .250-3000.

kilocharlie, I like the 115 partition in the 257 bob but my kids have used the 100 rem green box stuff, 100 gr, with great results in the 250-3000. I blieve the green box 100 gr is the psp, not the pspcl. I like the 115 partition as most of our shots are close, 100 yards or so.

the BLR I have in 257 roberts was purchased mainly to give my wife a nice deer rifle combo, she seldom hunts with it but both my sons do and I load 100 grain speer bullets over a stiff load of 45 grains of IMR 4350, or 45 grains of ww760
either works fine!
and that little BLR has dropped several deer from 35 yards to 350 or more and always proven far more effective than the size of the bore would lead you to believe it should be PROVIDED you do your part and place the shot above the heart!!!

Slam dunk for me would be the 100 Horn.

A 100 Hornady at 250-3000 speed has been a pleasant surprise on whitetails, though I haven't whacked any big ones with it. This bullet penetrates surprisingly well, even on shoulder bones. On really big deer I'd prefer a 100 TSX or 115 NPtn, but the Hornady has done well on lesser ones.

340, is that BLR 257 a factory rig or custom barrel? I have not seen one in 257, what a neat combo!

Browning made the BLR in .257 and I think still does.
The ones I have seen have been straight grip, flip down rear sight on the barrel, hooded front.

I may give up on my search for a light bolt action and go with a BLR myself.

Lee24, first of all, a BLR is 257 seems way cool. second, don't give up your search, just send a short action model 70 to douglas barrel and they can install a new tube in 257 and duplicate your existing barrel contour. I did this with a compact model 70 in 250-3000 for the kids and douglas did a great job.

I'm thinking about it. I have a Model 70 Compact in 7mm-08.
Just found another in .243 with scope for $325.00, and a new 7mm-08 for $515.00. I figure that $325 + 90.00 for an NECG front sight and $55.00 for a Lyman aperture, and I still have enough left to upgrade the stock.

Did you go 20-inch barrel in your .250-3000?
It thought about doing that, and make it full stock.

strait from browning, bought it after several years of hunting with the 358 win , found it to be a great combo,
theres several calibers that BLR never advertized much but had or has like the 284 win, 223 rem, 450 marlin, 300 win mag 325 win mag ETC.

theres several guys I hunt with have BLRs in 358 win and 30/06 one has a a 300 win mag, I just bought a 450 marlin BLR last year, I own BLRs in 257 rbrts,358 win,30/06 plus 450 marlin currently
