Greetings!

I know there are savvy Husqvarna folk out there who will be able to help me determine a date of manufacture and other interesting stuff...I succumbed to temptation a few days ago and acquired a very nice looking (to me) Husqvarna 30'06. Its a CRF model, serial no. 2867XX. Can someone tell me when she was made? Other information tidbits?

Many thanks in advance!

Will probably need pictures or at least a little better description. 98 mauser action or later HVA action?

1965 or so on the date. It will be an HVA action (1640) if made in 65.

Need more info to know for sure what model.

There is a third lug towards the rear of the bolt...does this in any way help?

I seen something similar from early 60s not long ago. Very high quality for the money. The one I examined was in little used condition for $500 but I did not buy it as it was chambered for the .358 monstrosity. When the owner pulled cartridge out of ole' Norma box my jaw dropped in awe! crazy Your '06 is much more useful cartridge and ammo can be bought in any store carrying hunting supplies. wink

Yep, commercial HVA 1640 action. Not sure what model rifle that is though.

I'm thinking it's a model 1640 (pretty common). Certainly has an alloy floorplate, which fits with the serial # and looks like a fixed rear site.
This site is a starting point for reference, one I use.

The third lug is a safety lug, just like on the '98 Mauser.

The rifle was made in 1964 and is based on the 1640 action (aka HVA action). To identify the model I need to know the length of the barrel.

Thank you! Much appreciated. The barrel is 60.4 cm / 23.75 inches from muzzle to bolt face.

The rifle needs a thorough cleaning. I'd like to take the bolt down and give the pieces a scrub. Can you please point me to instructions for how to take the bolt down?

Many thanks once again!

Here is a link to a thread on a different forum that has the take down instructions.

The barrel length indicates is would be a "standard weight" model like a Swedish model 1640 or US model 3000 or 3100. From the pictures it looks like the stock has either been replaced or the forend has been modified. The 1640 model would have a schnable forend while the the 3000 - 3100 would either a black plastic or rosewood forend tip.

In any event, you have a really excellent hunting rifle. Congrats and great grab there.

Didn't the cheaper Husky 5000 models have a similar stock to the rifle in question?

I have a Husky 5000 made in '63 and it has a schnabel fore end.

My memory sure isn't what it used to be. I must be thinking of some of the lower priced fn rifles having stocks that looked like that one.
thanks
dan
