Anybody seen any published data for Superformance powder to be used in 204 or 223?

I have not seen any powder in the Superformance line that is suitable for those two as of yet in the store. I bought the Superformance but it is too slow for that size case.

Thanks. I see Hornady has "superformance" ammo available for 223. Just wondering if anybody has discovered which powder and/or if it is available yet.

The current available version of Superformance only has data for 22-250, 243, 6mm, 25 WSSM, 300 WSM, and 300 RCM unfortunately, as a matter of fact I just printed a copy today for myself, according to Hodgdon it only works well in certain cartridges.

Hodgdon's has some more data on their online load database. They use it in several more cartriges than listed above, but you are right that it only works well for certain cartriges, and it generally takes a compressed load to get the "goodie" out of it. T.S.

Do you know where to find those, because that's all I got when I printed Superformance loads from the Hodgon site. There's Leverevolution loads on the same page if that's what you mean. Thanks.

The powder used in Superformance Ammo isn't the same as the Hodgdon stuff, just gives similar performance in certain cartridges.

My bad it was the Leverevolution loads that I saw, sorry. Some of them are sweet though, like for the 358 win, they really boost performance. T.S.

I agree, but that's what I thought you were talking about.

Superformance powder is likely too slow for either cartridge.

The blend of Superformance powder that Hornady uses and what Hodgdon sells is different as per tech at Hodgdon.

As I understand it, most manufactureres do not use a specific powder but a blend? This allows them to achieve better velocities and they are not available to reloaders. Manufacturers do not weigh the charge as we reloaders do. I can't recall if they use case capacity or what. So for now us mortals must use what we have.

No idea what you are shooting your 223 out of, but just an FYI, Hornady 223 Superformance Ammo is not to be used in 16" carbine AR. Hornady warns against it due to high pressure at the gas port in the carbine length gas systems.

Thanks. Saw their warning on this.

I am looking for a powder for 223 AI, 22/204 AI, 222 Magnum AI, and another of my own making.

I had a similar discussion with a Hodgdon Tech last week. I was asking about the new powders for the .240 Wby. He said that Superperformance has a rather narrow application with the 6mm Rem class of ctgs. and light bullets. He didn't recommend Superperformance in the .240. He said they hadn't done much work with that one because of the small market.

He told me that Hodgdon is using 48 blends of powder in their loadings from .222 to .458 Lott. Just because they call their ammo Superperformance, doesn't mean this powder is in more than a few. They've released only a couple of these new powders to the public.

I just got my Rem model 7 back from Ray Bowman at Precision Rifle and Tool in NC. Ray fitted a #2 Brux, 7.5 twist bbl, using the PTG .22-204 reamer with .250 neck and .060 freebore. He also rechambered a Rem 722 with .222 med heavy Hart that had a chamber issue. He set the Hart back and used the same reamer to make my second 22-204, this one with a 12 twist. I'm working on getting them back in their stocks and look forward to load development.

Tell us about your .22-204AI.

It is a 22/204 AI with a 0.100 longer chamber (intentionally ran the 223 AI reamer deep).

Will be a rather specific powder for the case capacity.

Have some N140 loaded now, probably have to try N135. BLC-2 will need to be purchased soon as well.

The .204 already has a short neck. Seems that .100" more chamber would result in an even shorter neck. Any problems there?

You must have to take the .204 case up to 6mm or so, then size only part of the neck to .224 for headspace to fire form your new case. Am I close?

Mule Deer wrote that he thought TAC was probably the fastest .204 powder. The burn rate is right. Do you think it would be a good .22-204 choice?
