Has anybody tried Superformance in their 7 saum? I just got word that my rifle is ready, and I've got 4 lbs of Superformance sitting here... I'm thinking it might could make a 140 TSX move right along. The question is how it'll compare w/ H4350 and R17...

I'm sorry, they don't even have 7WSM loads using Superformance, so it must not work well in those cartridges, it only works in certain ones, was that the only cartridge you bought it for? For my 7SAUM I'm gonna use RL-17 and load data for IMR4350 (starting out reduced 10% of course) as recommended per Alliant powder tech.

I'm pretty sure Superformance should work nicely- but Hodgdon hasn't released much data yet. No big deal though- Lots of other oprtions out there. I'm thinking H4350 and 140 TSX should do the trick.

I was told by a Hogdgon Tech that Superperformance has a rather narrow application with light bullets in the .243/6mm Rem class of ctgs. It may work in the 7 SAUM, especially with lighter bullets. I think they have other powders that may be better for heavier bullets, and a call to them should be helpful. I was told they use 48 different blends of powder for their ctgs., .222 Rem thru .458 Lott. They've only release a few to the public.

I've heard that as well, but given that they talk about it being good for short mags, it seems like a pretty good fit.

I'm thinking that it would be better with light bullets, based on what the Tech said. He said the application was pretty narrow with that one, so I'm not sure how narrow, narrow may mean. May be like Bill Clinton trying to define the word, "is".

They list 168gr loads for the 300WSM, so I'd say light to mid-weight bullet loads should work good.
I personally think they're over-emphasizing the line about the narrow application range. For absolute best performance, maybe, but for good/very good performance, I can't buy the whole narrow application stuff. The powder has no clue what cartridge it's in - it's all about burn rate, volume, pressure, bullet bearing surface, etc.
I bought a couple of lbs yesterday - I will be trying it in my 300 and 7mm WSM's. I'm sure with 130-150's, it'll show good velocity in the 7mm WSM even though it's not listed.

Yeah, TX. You never know how much of that info is CYA from the legal dept. or the fact that they haven't tested the powder in other than a few authorized ctgs. The latter may be a big factor, as I was asking the Tech specifically about the .240 Wby. He let me know, that because of the small market for the .240, they hadn't done much work with it and he didn't think it would be advisable for the .240. They do list some short mags, and if it works in one, I would think it should work in others.
The .240 Wby does well with a wide range of powders from Vv N140 and Ramshot Big Game all the way down the chart to 7828, RL-22 and Ramshot Magnum, depending on bullet weight. Superperformance surely in is that spectrum. So, I think there may be more opportunities for the 7 SAUM and other short mags than they're posting at this time.

I'm going to hold off testing until I get my chrono worked properly. Not much point in messing around w/ unknowns.
