So, I was at the Sportsman's Warehouse and saw a Rem 700 LSS in .300 Win on their shelf (the one with the BDL shaped gray laminated stock, not the Mountain Rifle). I thought it was an old one....but then I realized that they stopped making that model before the SW opened.

So, I asked if I could take a look at it and the guy behind the counter said it was a non-catalogued special run for retailers. I also noticed the checkering on it was a little fancier than the standard Rem checkering.

I should have picked it up, but didn't. I've found some on line, but can't differentiate it between the current or a leftover from a few years ago, as the ones online show standard checkering.

Anyhow, does anyone have any info on this model? It's selling for under $700, and even though I've already got a .300 Win, having one that's a little more weather resistant may not be a bad idea...could also be a good idea to have two of the same caliber in case I ever go on an out of state hunt.

Interesting. I always liked the LSS... Wanted one in 7RM, then they quit making them.

Rem has made the 700 LSS in stainless with the black/grey laminated stock chambered for a few different rounds. I seem to recall 7mm RM and one if not both of the SAUMs. I've got one in .280 Rem. To my knowledge they've not made them for approx 4-5 years, but I'd not be surprised to see some old stock on dealer shelves. Not sure if they were "spec run" or just dealer exclusives.

I had an LSS in 300 Winchester as well. The rifle was a good solid rifle that shot well. Only problem that I did not like was the extremely high gloss of the finish. I jut did not like the finish. They used the black laminate to try and cover up the rifle. Then they put a finish on the rifle that made it stand out like a mirror Tom.

I'm not sure that they are a "special run" but Remington is producing an LSS that is neither the Mountain LSS nor the LSS of a couple of years ago. I have had one in both 25-06 and 7mm-08 in the last 3 months.

They have the aforementioned Black/Gray laminated stock and the SuperCell recoil pad but have the rougher finish much like an SPS stainless. The metal isn't nearly as nicely finished as they were in the prior version. The 25-06 had a 22" barrel even though the spec's call it a 24". You can search for them at Bud's Gun Shop and see the lineup of available chamberings.

The recoil pad will tell you if it's a recent run. Generally thicker with Remington on the side of the pad.

Speaking of metal finish, waterbug, that's one reason I like the earlier ones. My 280 has the smooth satin SS finish, exactly like the old BDL SS models.

I've got one of the 2008 257 Wby models, and it has the new trigger and the super thick recoil pad. It also has the matte finish. I do recall the high gloss finish of the earlier models. The 300 Win I saw at SW was just like my 257 Wby (matte finish and thick recoil pad), but had different checkering (kinda like the M70s...more ornate) and of course a 24" bbl as opposed to the 26" on the WBY.

I've found a couple on line, and according to the guy at SW it is a special run just for certain vendors, but I would like to find out who and where, since I dropped the ball on buying the one I saw that day a few weeks back. DAMMIT!

Exactly the best way to tell if it's one of the newer versions, and the rough finish but thats hard to tell about looking at a pic, 22" barrels on standard cartridges, a very nice touch I thought..............HB

I had one of the .243's and sold it before I ever got around to shooting it. That is one that I certainly regret. Did I sell it to you?

I have one in 7mm RM. Actually its a 700CDL fitted with a 700LSS stock.
I prefer a blued barrelled action in the LSS stock - its a unique look.

Not me. I got mine approx 3 or 4 years ago when an Ace Hardware store in TN (IIRC) was blowing them out on GunBroker for approx $500. Forgot I had it 'til this morning.

The newer ones would likely have the supercell pad.

A gentle rub with 0000 steel wool will take the gloss down to a nice satin finish. I've done it and it turned out nice.

Very nice! Reminds me of the old Weatherby SLS (Stainless Laminate Sporter) which was blued stainless...

Had a chance to buy a LSS 257WBY last year for $500. Never had a scope mounted on it and was never fired. I worked with the guy and he said all he had done was put bases and rings on it when he took it out of the box and put it in the safe. Kickin myself for not buyin it now that I see what they are going for on GB...

A buddy bought an LSS a while back and dropped it in a B&C stock. Sold it, though it shot amazing for a factory rifle, it was turned into a donor, only to find out it was a custom shop gun.
