Like the title says - what contour does the howa / vanguard compare to ? They call it a #2...by my quick measurements it seems close to a rock #3 ? Is it ?
Anyone know offhand what it compares to?

Alot of mfg. vary. Are you re-barreling one? If so, ask the bbl maker if they can duplicate it, or come close.

My vanguard says it's a #3 but .740 at the muzzle

I believe they made a ltd. run of a med heavy sporter. Many are std. sporter, or heavy varmint IIRC.

Depends on when it was made. BIL bought one in the early 90s in 270 with a mountain rifle barrel. Bought my son one about 5 years ago and it is a medium heavy sporter.

I am thinking of re-barreling one. I know scenarshooter's GAP non-typicals have rock #3's on 'em. I'm just thinking I could know the weight if it was close to the factory contour and decide if I want it a smidge lighter. The factory 24" barrelled actions seem just a tad heavy, for say and edge stock and what not.
I know the Howa won't be a lightweight, but a well balanced gun is what I am after. Have to see...
