Well, here on the ranch, I use whatever I have stuffed in the saddle scabbard at the time. If anticipate deer, I might be carrying a .257 Rob. Ive certainly killed Elk with it several times using 115 gr Nosler Part. If Ive seen Elk in the area and anticipate bringing home Elk steaks that night, Ill be carrying one of the rifles below. I know for a fact that if you do your part, all are very effective at putting down Elk with absolutely no problems:
(1) .270 Win. & 150 gr Nosler Part.
(2) .280 Rem. & 160 gr Nosler Part.
(3) .308 Win. & 150 gr Nosler Part.
(4) 30-06 using 180 Nosler Part.
(5) .338 Win Mag & 250 gr Nosler Part.
Although I still have a couple of the .338 Win. I dont think Ive shot either in over 15 years. I guess if I were shooting a fair distance, I might use one, but on this ranch a long shot might be all of 125 yds. So, no need for this much gun.
Respects,
Richard
