I handgun hunted most of gun season in Pa. this year but have committed to hunting with one of the .405s next year...

Anyone here connect with their .405?

Have been looking at those very inexpensive Sabbatti double rifles in .45-70 and 9.3x74R at Cabela's...I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were offered in .405....

I too would jump on a afforadable double in 405 win. Took a Cali blacktail 3 years ago with my TC Encore. About 45 yards behind the shoulder, dead deer and a pass thru. Could eat up to the hole. Thinking I'll try the new 1895 next year.

Bob,
I saw two Belgian doubles in .405 at the Tulsa gun show a couple of years ago, one for $3,000 and the other for $5,000. While I was handling the latter, the dealer confirmed the sale of it, so I scurried back to the other table and it had sold too! Next time, I will be ready!
Meanwhile, I have had to be satisfied with blasting things with my Miroku/Winchester 1895 TD .405. This includes water buffalo, nilgai, hogs, and pronghorn. Nothing this fall however, as my Colorado elk hunt has yet to materialize (elk left the ranch due to dry weather and have not returned); still want to take a bear and moose with it but that will have to wait till next fall as we are off to shoot a cape buff with it this coming June. So much to shoot, so little time.

My first deer this season fell to my Encore in 405 win. 142 yards DRT. The gun has a perfect record on 13 game animals thus far. One of my favorites. At this rate I'll likely run out of ammo in a hunnert years or so.

Chances are that the factory loads won't regulate in a DR. That's a whole different ball game. Hopefully it'll be stamped with the bullet weight so you can start to build a load that will duplicate the regulated load.

Since 300 grains is about the only bullet weight ever widely loaded for the .405...I can not imagine any gun maker regulalating for anything else...

I happened upon the Clark Custom Gun site...they are making custom double rifles based on CZ double shotguns...and one of the calibers is .405... Prices START at $5K...
