Is Callahan still offering his lettering service on Savage Arms? Last one I had done was 5-6 years ago.

Ah, visions of Joe all bundled up, sitting in a lawn chair out by the mailbox, with a fistful of beers stuck in the snow next to him.

Waited long enough I guess cause it got here today!

Lettered correctly as an 1895 SRC.

Accepted Dec 31, 1896 with 22" bbl and shipped to Hartley & Graham of New York City on August 7, 1896.

Glad I got the serial number right this time!

Arthur Savage began to exercise a talent for invention while he was a cowboy in Australia. When he returned to Jamaica, he learned that the British government wanted an improved firearm and he set about to produce it. He devised a gun, the rights for the manufacture of which he sold to the Hartley & Graham Company

Hey wait a sec!

Is it just me or did J.C. screw up?

How can it be accepted on Dec 31 of 1896 and shipped on Aug 7 1896? I think Johnny made a typo!

The production date is in line with the others in this string.

Oh well, what's a few more months of waiting? grin

I saw on the Fox site that John has a new mailing address. I put it below. Can anyone else confirm that this is for all new inquiries?

That would probably be an important piece of information if it's true.

Probably a nephew with the same name and he's cashing the checks, hahahaha.

Yeah, they will only forward his mail for so long, then stuff will start to get sent back to sender.

My 1895 SRC was manufactured Dec. 26, 1896 so I suspect the first date is correct. Now was it shipped Aug 7 1897 or 1898?

Any that were shipped in 1899 (mine June 29/99) had been converted to 1899 bolt and barrel cut to 20 inches. They were shown in early catalogues and old as 1899s (3 are known with similar manufacturing/shipping) and all 3 are identical.

Now because of the unfortunate confusion Joe I can understand if you wish to trade the SRC to me for a 99 EG 300 Savage that was definitely manufactured in 1954. Nice clean rifle that was owned by a little old lady who never shot it at anything over 50 yards so bore is perfect.

OK I give up. Can someone tell me just what does Mr. Callahan do for or to a rifle?
