If I were you I would keep the 30-06 as is. If you want a 270 with 130gr Partition @ 3100 fps, load up a 30-06 with a 150gr Partition @ 3000 fps. I'm sure that it will work just as well. I would also keep the VX-3 3.5-10x40 on the rifle. I think that scope is better proportioned to a 30-06 length action. I think that the VX-3 2.5-8x36 is better suited to 308 length actions.

Very true.....Over the last few years I've started shooting quite a bit more than I ever have. I've learned to HANDLE recoil much better than I ever have. I've also learned that I dislike UNNECESSARY recoil.

Just called the shop where I purchased the 3.5-10x40 from and asked if an exchange for the 2.5-8x36 would be possible....and it looks like it might work out.

There is not much difference between the cartridges nor will it matter much in the field or range for that matter.

What did you spend all that money on a mula or is it nula anyway for?

Just use it as is or sell it.

I also have a NULA M24 .30-'06 with the Douglas stainless 24" barrel. If you want to duplicate .270 ballistics move down to a lighter weight monolithic bullet like a Barnes TSX, much easier than a rebarrel. If you wear out the barrel, then not so big a deal. I have both Leupold scopes and I like the 2.5-8X32 for that rifle.

Melvin selects his own barrels from Douglas, so if you do decide to sell yours make sure you feature that quality!

Wow. I'd just run a 30 cal 130 TTSX at 3200 out of the -06 and be done with it. Or, move it up a tad and run a 150 Partition if the Partition is what you really want. Isn't a deer around that won't keel over from that medicine. If you simply MUST run a .270 130 Partition, buy another rifle.

I guess I would save the $600 and start a fund for my next NULA.

Bad idea, why get rid of something that shoots one hole groups? A 270 is the same thing.

If you want to shrink the bore buy a short action like a 7-08, 243 or 260

I will make you a real low-ball offer on the rifle and throw in a like new 2.5 VX-3 with B&C

I think a lot of people buy into the talk about how little NULAs recoil (and maybe for some they do). I like the quality balance and fit, but think the recoil is like going up in recoil a cartridge or two as compared to a standard weight rifle. As an example, I thought my .300 recoiled closer to a standard weight .340 and my .270 recoils more like a hot-loaded .30-06 with heavy bullets or even a .300 WSM. Several people I let shoot both agreed with my recoil assessment.

True. And it applies equally to recoil, balance and effort in carrying up a a mountain.
