Probably because you are a hunter in your spare time.

Thanks for the info.

SU? Cool, but the hee hee factor is pretty high on this to my admittedly occasional juvenile sense of humor. wink SU has already been taken. Hmm. What happens when Skunks Unlimited wants to start up a club too? Not to mention Starlings, Sea Snails and Seagulls Unlimited. Next thing you know the fruit nazis will be at it again with their push to broaden the definition of 'Unlimited' groups to include other forms of life? Like, Artichokes and Carrots Unlimited. Yep, I predict chaos.

Rattler, we shoot those by the hundreds outhere as well, but unlike the tree squirrels I cannot bring myself to try to eat one. Heck, I don't even like to get close enough to photograph them! Flea covered varmints.

I do miss living where I could hunt tree squireels that were big enough to be worth a 22 bullet and good eating. Western Grays were my boyhood eatin squirrels.

Wow ingwe, that's a helluva neat pic. Never been one for mounting small game/birds, but that would be a serious contender.

I love this recipe! I made some a couple of weekends ago.

Squirrel Brunswick Stew (Brunswick stew originated with squirrels))

10 squirrels in pieces
2 cups of corn
1 lb of bacon diced up
5 lbs of potatoes
2 qts of tomatoes
3 lbs of onions diced up
2 lbs of lima Beans
1 cup of celery diced up
salt, pepper
1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
crushed up crackers (saltines)

I halved this recipe, and it made a big batch for my family, with leftovers.

Cook the bacon first, and remove from the pot.

Saute the onions in the bacon fat that is left in the pot, then remove.

Put the squirrels in the pot, and barely cover with water. Simmer. Remove the squirrels when tender, and pull the meat from the bones. Keep the stock water.

Now dump everything together in the stock, and cook. Cook for ~ 2 hours. I put the bacon pieces in when the stew was about done and ready to be served. If you want to thicken it, use some crushed up saltine crackers instead of flour. It only takes a few crackers, and thickens up the stew almost instantly. It is way better than using raw flour.

Break out the biscuits or cornbread! grin

VA I used to do some field collecting in Pinehurst in the water hazards along the courses. First time I saw one of those I honestly did not know what is was - kinda scared me!
