I know this has been dicsussed previously but I just bought a Sako 85 Finnlight and am in the need for rings - the lighter the better. I have reviewed previously discussions about them and I am favoring Optilock Ring mounts, though not terribly light people seem to love them. I am planning on using a Leupold 6x36 matte with dots.

Where is the best (read cheapest) place to get them?

Any recent changes in what is available you would recommend?

Ringmounts are on my 85, bought the blued at Brownells for ~$120. I've heard that they make them in SS, but have never seen them.

I don't know the cheapest place.

You do know that the Ringmounts won't be your lowest mounting option for a 36mm scope.Leupold ringmounts, though not quite as strongly made, offer the lightest and lowest option.

I have only heard of one failure with the leupolds and that was with a very heavy S&B and a mag caliber rifle.

Your choice is still a good one if the height works for you. It's not terrible considering the cheek piece height but I hate a scope higher than necessary.

I just put Conetrols on my Finnlight. They are slick but a little more weight than the Optilock Ring mounts I took off.
I have some options for you.I have a set of Leupold Quick Detach bases, they are nice but I never used them.I ran the OL ringmounts they worked fine.
elkcrazy,I don't know what you have but I'll give you a good deal on the OL Ringmounts if you want to try them.
One issue,I bought them used, they look like new but the lunk head ground the recoil stop(pin)off. That recoil stop is really not needed unless you have a big magnum.Even then,I can't see how the would slide on a tapered dovetail.
PM if you have any interest in the Leupold or Optilocks

I have a couple pair of the stainless Optilock Ringmounts ...one set that I got powdercoated on my Sako m75 Greywolf 338-06AI with a Leupold VX3 scope, the other set is a safe queen right now waiting for another Sako m75 project rifle. LOVE THEM..

All my other Sako m75 and couple Tikka T3 rifles have the Optilock rings & bases setup.

When I got my sako 85, it seemed like I had heard about a lot of dissatisfaction with the optilock. The Talley rings required you get their bases as well. So I bought the leupold rings that fit right on the sako rail. Haven't had any problems.

I personally like the idea of eliminating the bases equation and mounting straight to the dovetail with the Optilock Ringmounts.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

elkrazy,

I have a set of rings taken off a Sako Forester 243. The rear base has an adjustable folding peep installed. Will those help?

EC - I found this to be my favorite setup. I purchased of from ebay for under 30usd including shipping. It was a sako packaged mount(Low) but looks more like lynxoptic / b-square. I have a Swaro Z3 3x10x42 sitting on my L61R with enough clearance for a CC to slide through. I gave up on my xtra low optilock mount because is it way too high for my taste. Let me know if you need to see closer pictures of it. I have an older warn QD on my Sako 75 with a 3x10x42 zeiss but the setup in the picture is what I favor. I have an Opti LA base and xtra low ring if it fits your need. Purchased new and mounted only once on the old L61R for less than a year. PM for price.

I recently mounted a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 on My Finnlight .270 Win, I used the Sako ringmounts in low, I think I like these ringmounts better than any other system I have used on Sako rifles and that includes Talley's..I know if nothing else these ringmounts look great..............Hb
