Just the other day I played with the camo stainless T3. WOW whata great rifle on the longer cals it's action was made for......I actually liked it better than the A7 too. But that A7 is a quality rifle for those few $$$, & it says Sako on the side

My 6 1/2 lb 30-06AI is bad enough.......maybe a guy could double up with Decellerator pads..........

If I was to drop $2k on one, I'd do the same thing.

But I can drop a lot less than $2k on a M700 donor, custom barrel, 'smith work, Edge, and end up with the same wieght and a better hunting rig.

And spend the rest on a VX-3 2.5-8........

How does a 7mm08 recoil any less than a .270 in a 5.5 lbs rifle? Two 140 grain bullets at 2800 fps look and feel the same to me?

I agree. You have to admit, Sitka gear is pretty good looking and it works well in the environment it was designed for. Everyone that thinks the rifle is ugly, try picturing it with a matte black barrel and action.

Me too. I wouldn't be suprised if Kimber acts the same way and we see the rifles start to trickle out NEXT year.

Seems to me the way of reception could make a business man make that choice - or worse.

Screw the Optifad - I plan to have it fade from use and then? Rattle cans are cheap.

So it is not blued or brushed steel. Big deal.

The muzzle break? Use the thread protector.

I plan to get my filthy hands on one - somehow, sometime.

My objection is based on my own experience.

Lightweight is fine... but only to a point. The new Kimber, IME, is far too much of a good thing.

I hunted 3 solid seasons with a Kimber MT 308 Win... scoped with sling and rounds, a hair under 6lbs 4oz's. At times it's difficult to settle a rifle that light down for the shot.

For me, that weight is the end of anything useful.

Ultra-lightweight rifles are fine in theory, but fall down in practice.

But most people hunt more in the realm of theory than in the realm of reality... and I don't consider hunting deer from a stand any sort of test of a lightweight rifle. In fact, were I a stand hunter I'd use an 8lb, wood stocked, blued rifle... something beautiful to fondle while passing the time.

True dat, I have a customized Mod. 70 Classic stainless short action in .308Win, 22" tube, Micky Fwt. Edge and slabbed, etc, at Martini Gunmakers. It goes 6-10 empty, with a light scope and mounts and shoots and handles VERY nicely.

I have a Remmy 600 action, stainless 7-08 Mtn. Rifle barrel, Brown Precision Kevlar stock, blind mag. and PTG ADL guard and it seems that it will finish at 6-2 or 6-4 all up and it does handle well, but, anything lighter just don't work for me and I have tried a few.

I also have several P-64 Ftws, Brno 21s and Husqy HVA rifles, alloy bottom metal and Edge or other highend light synthetic stocks and these run from 7-4 to 7-13 ready to rock and I actually prefer them for mountain hunting as they settle faster and in the .30-06, .270Win, .280 Rem. and 7x57 chamberings I have, the recoil is not onerous.

So, I agree with my buddy, Brad, here and will not build or buy a rifle lighter than 6.5 lbs. scoped for my mountain hunting. As they say, lose that weight around your middle and the rifle seems lighter as well. I am still a bit sore from this mornings humping a loaded pack around the park next to my place in service of the foregoing!

LOL - I am as guilty as the next guy of this. Have been around the mountain few times though - and my guns never ever were a burden.

LW is just an idea and I actually like the Ascent (save for the muzzle break) optically in a weird sort of way.

I would like to try one.
