I am very new to coyote hunting and I was wondering if anyone in the Cincinnati or Northern Ky area would be willing to help. I shoot a 204 with factory loads Vmax Bullets. I live on a farm and after dark the dogs are thick we run cattle. I need a good way to call them in and start knocking them out. anyone willing to help out would be greatly Appreciated.

Thanks
John

John:

You best bet is to plunk down $200.00 or so for a FoxPro electronic caller [or $40.00 for several mouth calls] re daytime calling at dawn and dusk; also consider another $100.00 or so for a red spotting light and a bright LED kill light mounted to your rifle scope for night hunting.

Mating howls will work well this time of year. And if you are calving, hunt 100-200 yards in a hide off a fresh afterbirth or dead calf site early/late.

There is lots of info over at www.predatormasters.com and a posting there re your location will likely result in some responses from KY and OH coyote hunters willing to show you the ropes per a few hosted hunts on your property.

Good Luck and Good Hunting!

John,

You'll get a schit ton of advice on this. But if you want to hit them right now, I think dog speak is your best bet.

Here is a link to get an idea what you should sound like. He has a large sampling of sounds.

Here is an example of an estrus whimper. Should serve you well for the next few weeks. Skip to the 27 second mark.

I think the CrittR Call Song Dog is a good, easy howler to use but that is subjective of course.

I don't like electronic calls for two reasons. 1.) I'm lazy and I hate carrying extra schit. 2.) I'm lazy and I hate carrying extra schit.

Best of luck and ask away. Lots of good predator callers on here to help you out.

The Primos "Lil Dog" has been serving me well this season as well.

Where at around Cincy are you?

Ah, ok. I went to High School in SW Ohio, and my brother in law used to have a cabin at Cave Run Lake.

The ones I have been dropping on the ranches have come to female whimpers/invites. No reason at all to drop $200+ on a e-call when you can do that with a $4 double or single reed turkey diaphram. Better yet just a basic reed call and make like a coyote in heat...they will come.
Coyotes mixed with cattle aint interested in coming to ditress/rabbit or oher call when they are eating prime rib, from my experiances.
You dont need to be far from the cattle either as they wont want to come away from the dinner table easy.

Did I make you cry......boooo hooo, life goes on.

pm me i will mail you a free distress call easy to use just blow on it, coyote has to eat 3 to 5 pounds every 36 hours or he starts to starve. if they're hungry and they don't smell you they will come. e callers are ok but don't spend money on one unless you just want another toy, a simple howler will work with distress get a cheap one that you can just blow on and it will work.
good shooting.
