When you hit 'em, do they light?

I too use QD rings on a couple of my rifles..Open sights and an illuminated front sight like the firesight, takes open sights a step further.

I use Warne QD's on my Guide Gun with a Williams firesight on the front. It always returns to zero.

Yes I still use irons.Under most hunting conditions irons are no handicap. I use peeps and open sights, I like the peep better cause my eyes are don't focus as well on that open blade like they used too!! I like the peep on my main elk rifle a M54 Win. .30-06 with a 20 inch bbl. it's light and carries well.

My muzzleloaders are glassless as is my Browning B92. Everything elase wears glass but the leverguns have Warne quick disconnect rings.

Only 2-1/2 of my bolts even have iron sights. (The Rem M700 counts as 1/2 because it only has a front sight. Had to take the rear off when mounting the scope.)

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

I do some iron-sight hunting every year, but don't use them exclusively. Aside from North American game, one of my African safaris was made entirely with iron sights, an aperture on a .375 H&H Ruger No. 1 and the factory express sights on my CZ .416 Rigby. Took six head of game from impala to Cape buffalo at ranges up to around 220 yards, including a nice kudu. Did miss another impala at around 175 yards, but hurried the shot because a small herd of giraffes spotted me during the crawl toward the impala, and their nervousness had also made the impala nervous. Other than that everything was hit right with the first shot.

My two muzzleloaders are "traditional," and I've never hunted with anything but open sights and real black powder in either one, but also have used iron sights on some fairly modern rifles. Took a bull caribou a few years ago at 350 yards with a pre-'64 Model 70 Winchester in .270, using the factory front bead and an older Lyman 48 aperture sight. If you know how to use irons, and don't listen to a lot of the BS that's said about them, they're very effective.

I really like the thought of it but usually use a scope. My eye sight doesn't seem to encourage me to use a peep sight much, as i have a really hard time distinguishing the placement on the animal very well much past about 70 -100 yards; depending of course upon the size of the game.
