I have the opportunity to buy some Federal Premium Hyper Velocity, 7mm Remington Magnum, 110 Grain Barnes Tipped Triple-Shock Lead-Free Ammo at a real deal ($26.99). I was just wondering about the performance of those 110's on whitetail deer? I have always used 160's in the 7 MAG. but I am willing to try some smaller bullets.
I normally reload my ammo, but this ammo seems like a pretty good deal. For some reason I don't feel right using 110's on deer, but I figure they would have to be deadly.

Really? Here's a 110grs in action, and that was the heaviest bullet I threw at anything that year. If you can shoot, you'll be alright, if you can't, well you're [bleep] .

Absolutely, positively, more than enough for any deer on the planet.
Especially at 7mag speeds.

Yep, it will mow em down as far as you can hit em. I use the 140s and now 150 TTSX in my 7RM as I like one load for all game. The 110s will take out any deer that walks the earth.

Do you 'Fire members make all these kills in your church clothes? LOL As to the OP, 110 in 7mag is skimpy on sectional density. At longer distances on thicker animals I might be concerned about deep penetration and thump power. However, throw the book out the window- looks like it kills efficiently from the testimonials above. If you're busting em off the driver's side mirror of your Range Rover at 50 yards into the fence enclosure, you should be ready for anything. (a little sarcasm-don't want anyone's dentures to pop out) 7mag is overkill for whitetail, I used 150gr with mine. I just thinking the possibility if that 110 getting a little squirrely at down range depending on the twist of your barrel. Good luck to you, sounds like a pretty good bargain.

I killed a doe out at 263 lasered yards with a 110 grain TTSX two years ago. It put a fist sized holed in the on side scapula, took four ribs edgewise, took out a fist sized chunk of spine, took two more ribs edgewise, made a quarter sized hole in the off side scapula and then kept on going. Oddly, the entrance holes and exit holes in the hide were both caliber sized.
I realize a 7 mag isn't the rifle a .270 is, but you still oughta be able to kill a deer with it out to 400 before you have start worrying.

Thanks for the input guys. Most shots will be 100 yards or closer with a rare chance at an open field shot of 200 to 250 yards. I have never tried any bullets that small (110 Grain) on deer. When I started hunting deer years ago 150 grain was the minimum and I somehow got chose 160's for 7 MM and 180's for 30.06
By the way if any of you all are interested in factory ammo on sale, Midway is the one that has the Federal Ammo on sale. Not trying to sale ammo for anyone, but I thought I would pass this along to my fellow shooters.
7MM WSM Partion 160's for $20.99 7MM Weatherby 160's (Bear Claw) for $20.99
Some .270 110 grain stuff for $23.99 Others such as .300 WIN Mag - 130's Most of you all probably roll your own but that 7MM WSM and 7MM Weatherby ammo seemed like a heck of a deal.

4 what you're thinking of using it for the 110's will do just fine. I know that the idea of using a 110 out of a big 7 takes a bit getting used to but it will do the trick just fine. And a soft point will work as well as a harder premium bullet.
Now the bruin that Steelhead took with a 110 as I recall was out of a 250AI. A 110 in a 250 goes along pretty much mainstream if you catch my drift.
Long and the short, tough to find a bullet out of a Big 7 that won't do well on deer at those ranges. Even though most won't have tried it.
Best of luck to ya

Thanks Dober, I know if anyone would know it would be a skilled outdoorsman such as you.
Sometimes people like me get set in our ways and rely on stuff that has worked for us for 20 to 30 years. It worked for us and we stuck with it. Along comes new advanced bullet technology and design and we kind of buck the trend. Without a doubt premium bullets is not required to cleanly take a 130 pound whitetail deer. Does a Barnes Triple Shock do any better than a plain ol soft point bullet, heck I don't know; I am just an ol country boy. I am willing to try some new stuff. I ordered 5 boxes of the 7 MM Mag. 110's that I mentioned earlier. After I shoot up the 160's that have loaded I might give them a spin.
Thanks again for the advice and feel free to comment more to this thread. I claim to be no expert and am willing to listen to what others might have to add.

The old 120 7mm was just about perfect for Deer the TTSX should be even better. I don't know how many I shot before I finally recovered one, went through about four boxes with most used for hunting. It took shooting a 250+ hog lengthwise before I found a bullet.
I would think the 110 might have a tendency to tumble more if hitting heavy bone but I sure couldn't tell it with the 120's and if they did tumble it only made a bigger wound channel.
With those prices on the Weatherby ammo it would almost be worth getting another rifle just to take advantage of the sale.

I've seen a bunch of game made dead real quick with X/TSX/TTSX bullets. Lightweight bullets to heavies, they all work. You'll probably have to shoot some big deer on hard quartering angles, or even lengthwise, before you recover any of those 110gr TTSX bullets fired from your 7Mag. You'll probably find petals, now and then, but finding the actual bullet takes some effort.

More stupid internet bullschit relayed by the biggest cretin on this forum. While you are waiting to die, maybe you could spend your time doing something OTHER than defaming Remington, Barnes and other good products while hiding behind your key board.
