Captian Carroll Lefon AKA Neptunuslex and all round great mil blogger has died when his F-21 Kfir crashed while landing.
He had a wonderful writing style and was quick to explain the finer points of avation to dunderheads like me. He will be missed.

Just the other day he posted about losing the drag chute landing.
I wonder if that's a problem on the kifr's.

No clue but a drogue is a bad idea in general IMO - fouls the runway and prevents high-tempo ops. The Navy quit F-21's a long time ago for good reason.

Here's the TailHook Assoc article on his passing.

Maybe. I looked up the KNFL weather for the 6th and there ceilings were good but it was windy. Rumors of an IFE over on Ariwarriors but since it was civilian registered and flown the NTSB report will be pretty open.

Not sure what is correct, but I heard it was related to low ceilings and multiple attempts to land at Reno and Fallon. We'll see.

Lex was a daily read for me, I've just re read one of his funnier tales, it's in two parts, second part is the "anybody miss me" linky at the end.

That's classic Lex stuff

What I can tell you is that a letter of reprimand is better than no mail at all, and that the next four weeks saw a great deal more of Lazlo at the duty desk and wearing khakis, with only someone to spot him at the desk every seven days or so for him to get a night trap and thereby maintain night currency, great store being set in night currency on the line

Ugh - bouncing between those two is a sure sign of a bad day.
