I have one and like it a lot. Not a BR rifle, but more than accurate fo any big game hunting with 180, 200, 220 and 250gr bullets. Very handy for woods hunting.

rickc,
I've been using one for several years. If you follow JB's recommendations, & use TAC with magnum primers, you should be pleased with the results.

Expect a bit over 2500 fps with 225 gr bullets, & 2400+ with 250 gr bullets. My rifle prefers the 225 Sie, but does quite well with the 225 Barnes & 225 Partition. The Sp 250 HotCore & 250 Grand Slam (no longer made) are also very accurate.

This is a light rifle with a skinny tube, so don't let it heat up. I usually keep groups to three shots, then cool off.

The .358 is a powerful & effective hunting round. Penetration is usually a complete pass through, with a large wound channel. It kills elk very dead, very fast.

W-W does intermittent runs of brass. If you check the main suppliers, you can usually locate some. I've never had to resize .308 brass.

I think you're going to really like this cartridge. The best of luck with it.

I am very pleased with mine. I've only owned it for two seasons and find it very difficult to not choose it when I head out the door. Compact, very quick to the shoulder and light. I have had good luck with the 225gr SGKs and IMR-3031. No luck with 200gr bullets with a variety of powders. This summer I plan on working up some loads with some 250gr bullets. TAC, H-4895, IMR-3031, and W748 will be pushing these loads.

Seem to be a lot of 358 inquires lately.

Nothing fancy just a 200 grain SilverTip. This one left a hole in the the chest I could almost get my fist through.

The triggers take ~250-350 rounds to smooth out.

I have a BLR in this caliber but mine is blue. Very nice looking rifle and in teriffic condition. I've only shot it a few times, all with handloads. I also have a .308 that I have never shot and a 7MM-08. All were bought used when I was going through my lever craze. Only shot the .358 briefly and not very pleased with it. Took the scope off and put it up. Need to give it a chance. Never could get the 7MM-08 to shoot but got a few tips on here that I am going to try. Recently bought my own place so now I can shoot as much as I want. The .358 looks like it would be a great cartridge if I can get my rifle fed with what it likes and tune it a little. I suppose I gave up on it too quick after meessing the the other one so much. Hope you all can help me get some patience in my old age!

I had an early, steel-receiver .358 I bought in 1973 & used for several years with a WGRS peep sight.

While it was a fine-enough rifle, the commercial ammo available back then (I didn't handload) was too much for whitetail, the JSP's often pencilling through their chests at the close ranges I hunted them in Maine - leading me to eventually sell it, and get something in a chambering more suitable.

Used to have 2, an older steel frame and the new lightweight. the steel gun was much more user friendly, accurate and an all round better gun. But with that, it was a 1.5 MOA gun with the 225 Sierra over IMR-4320 (an old Ken Waters Pet Load). That came after much experimentation. Sold the gun before I had a chance to shoot anything with it except varmints. I never got the lightweight to shoot worth anything.
