I'm looking to try some 225 Accubonds with H4350. The load data for 225gr slugs seems to be all over the place.

The Speer manual says 71-75 grains H4350 for 225gr

Hodgdons website says 63-69.5

225 GR. HDY SP Hodgdon H4350 .338" 3.340" 63.0 2571 41,100 CUP 69.5 2785 51,700 CUP

Has anyone played with this combo that might have some guidance ???

Yeah, I've played with that combination quite a bit through at least a dozen guns. I hit maximum at between 66g and 69.5g in all of them.

That combo was never the best load in any of those in which I tried it. Always the best powder at the range was RL22. Because of the loss of velocity in extremely cold weather I experienced with it I went to others and generally ended up with H4831 for 225g bullets. A couple of the guns also worked well with N160. None would shoot H4350 well.

Go with the data from Hodgdon and you'll be fine.

Thanks, with temperatures ranging from +70 to -30 during hunting season I was hoping H4350 or H4831 would work smile. Maybe 'll grab some H4831, I just had a bunch of H4350 on the shelf.

I had great luck with H4350 and 210 NP and HSP 225, but can't remember what grain. Like H4350 a bunch!

Try your H4350 before you spend $$$. Your results could be better than mine. I've heard of lots of folks using it with success. That just wasn't my experience. Try it, your gun may like it! If not, fall back on the other.

Both versions of 4350 will give good accuracy in the 338 but neither will ever reach top velocity potential with 200-250 grain bullets.

RL-22 is always very accurate & will give much better velocity. RL-19 will also perform well with bullets of 225 grains & less.

Norma MRP is also top drawer in all respects.

Not a fan of H-4831 in the 338 as it doesn't really separate itself from 4350.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicion that the Speer #16 manual is probably pretty hot .. or maybe a bunch hot smile

H4831 is a bit slower on the burn rate chart than H4350, so it makes sense it might be a little better with heavier bullets. I'll give H4350 a shot and if no joy I'll be buying some H4831.

Just for what it's worth, I'm in the Rldr-22 camp however, my bullet is a 225 gr. Northfork. 73 grs. gives me 2800 fps with about 1" consistant groups.

I'm using 67.5gr of H4350 with 225gr Hornady Spire points out my Custom Sako AV 338 Win. Mag. for practice and 68.5gr with 225 Partitions and 225 Accubonds for hunting.
Don't give up on the H4350 with 225gr. bullets, maybe not the fastest but the group size puts a smile on my face.
YMMV

Reloader 22 has been the best for me with 225 grain bullets for both accuracy and velocity as well.

I had been using 76 grains for nearly 20 years but I notice some sources figure that is over max so I will need to redo the loads when this batch of powder runs out.

I should work up some loads with H4831 in case I ever pull a late season tag.

I shoot 225 TSX over 74.0 H4350 for 2900 fps.....I'd call that top velocity potential....sub MOA to boot.
