Oh ok.....:

First year for the 308 win and the fwt (1952). Pretty good score at the gunshow today. Had a guy offer me $75.00 for the period correct bueler mount and 4x scope that was on it so I took them off and may sell them to him later...Still doing some research to see what they are worth. Anyway, I'm not shy to tell you guys what I pay for my finds as I will probably never sell any of my pre 64's: This one set me back $900.00 but if I sell the scope and mount I'll be into it for $825.00 so that's not a bad score for todays find (it also came with a sling but I took it off for the cleaning):

All original first year 308 fwt in excellent condition other than the aluminum floorplate finish is worn frown.......It will likely keep my 30-06 company grin

Really good find at a fair price.

Is there a resource that identifies both the month and year of manufacture of Pre 64 M70's?

The softcover version will set you back about $80, but is invaluable. The hardcopy version you'll have to stop at the bank first.

BSAHunter,

I love the featherweights and .308 round.

Very nice find at the show.

Finds like that are what keep me hitting as many as I can.

Thanks....I've been lucky this last month...I really like the small town gunshows, seems you can find better deals on some pretty cool stuff.... grin

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

They are a wealth of knowledge kind of like BobinNH.....I got this one as a gift for fathers day last year or else I would have bought the soft cover one for $80.00. It has all the same information in it but you don't have to be affraid to drink you coffee around it... blush

If anyone is interested I have a first edition signed leather bound edition of Rule's book with the slip cover I would sell for $800. I also have a Copy of Whitiker's book that I would sell for $500.

Just saw this thread, sorry for the crappy pics.

My deer rifle: Pre War Ser. #109 (second month production) 270 Win Krieger barrel.

[Linked Image]

Another Pre War ('39) in 7mm Rem.

[Linked Image]

Pre 64 .338 Win

[Linked Image]

Pre War ('40) .375 H&H Krieger barrel and Tilden safety.

[Linked Image]

And my synthetic stocked travel rifle are identical (only one pic). One is a Pre 64 .270 Win Krieger barrel, the other (pictured) a '49 Transition .340 Wby also Krieger barrel. Taking this rifle to Kodiak in 10 days.

[Linked Image]

OMG can't believe I forgot my Sisk .300 Win. This rifle has been all over.....kinda took my best friend for granted cause ya know he's always by your side......

[Linked Image]

And I have 2 other Pre War long action donors ('39 and '41) and a complete '40 .270 rifle donor as well. Eventually I'm gonna replace the Pre 64s with the Pre War actions.
