Anyone know the max OAL you can fit in a WBY magnum magazine? Just curious if it was long like Remington or short like a Ruger. Thanks Dave

Well, they chamber it for 300 Wby, so it must be long enough to accept factory ammo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My Vanguard in .300 Weatherby will accept cartridges to the maximum SAAMI overall length (3.560 in.) but will not feed them reliably. I seat my bullets to a nominal 3.550 and cycle them all through the action to ensure that they will feed with no glitches.

Is the 257WBY on the same length action as the 300? Thanks Dave

I am not an expert on Weatherbys, owning only 3--all different actions. The SAAMI overall length for the .257 Wby is listed at 3.250 in.--.310 shorter than the .300 Wby that I have. Whether the Vanguard in .257 Wby uses a shorter action or whether they just have a shorter magazine and bolt stop, I just don't know and I don't have access to one to check. I seem to remember that in the Mark V actions, there are two lengths, but the .257, .270 and 7mm Wbys have a bolt stop and the actions themselves are the same length as the .300 Wby, etc. Hang in there--someone who knows will weigh in. They always do!

All the nine locking lug Mark V actions are the same length from 240 through 460. just different bolt stops and magazine box.

I just got through loading for my Howaby 300WBY. I loaded to 3.565. Any more and the rounds bind up in the mag.
Just for the heck of it I pulled the mag box off my M700 Tupperware Special. It it almost 3.7" and will fit a Howaby with some filing and Dremel work. There would be loading issues since the opening at the reciever, under the scope, is almost exactly 3.6". If the round is longer, loading is a bit problematic but can be done. Still there is quite a bit of freebore left after loading out to a theoretical 3.65-3.68 inches or so. A gunsmith could do some minor machine work to help make loading longer rounds easier.
A project better left to someone with a lot of money to throw at a $300 rifle. Not me. Rather be blasting pop-cans
