I was poking around a local pawn shop, not known for deals. But I walked out with a Stevens 325-C. Looks pretty good, and has the six-hole tap in the side for scope mounts and peep sights.

Although I know I will put a small 4x scope on it, I want to find a decent peep sight for it also. My eyes suck, but I want to try this.

I am not finding many choices. Just a Williams for $85. Is there anything out there a wee bit more inexpensive? This was an unplanned purchase, and technically I 'shouldn't have' made this purchase.

No, but the 325 is a rare gun, I should have bought the only one I have ever saw, last year for 850, and lets just say was well used, with a cracked stock, the shop owner had never seen one before. I went back up a few month later to buy it, but it was gone. someone on here will help you!

I paid $225 OTD, it looks pretty good I am pleased to say.

*LATE NOTE: I would like an older scope, such as an old Weaver or Redfield

Someone made me a very fair offer already, but it wasn't what I had in mind, sorry I didn't specify what I was hoping for.

The SN will be easy, but Photo Bucket and I are having problems right now. I'll do both after I go to the range this morning, and see just how bad my eyes are.

Suspect that rifle won't have a serial number. Pre-GCA 68 340's
and their various permutations (and their progenitor the 325) weren't numbered.

airedaleman,
Happy you wrote that. I was getting ready to ask where to find the SN! I don't see it. I didn't want to take it out of the action again.

QUESTION: How tight should I be cranked on the barrel band?

FWIW, the Williams Gun Sight Co makes two different receiver peep sights that will fit the prep holes on your receiver.

The FoolProof is the more expensive, and features micrometer-type click adjusters - best for those folks who are constantly fiddling the sight adjustments for whatever reason.

The 5D is price at 50% the price of the FoolProof, but is a "set-n-forget" sight, with sliding w/e adjustments secured via grub screws.

Hey y'all, I got a scope today. Tracker 6x, more magnification, but $75.

Thanks for all the other offers.

It'll not have a serial number, but it should have a date code, like the Lever Boss Code on a 99, either on the front of the receiver or on the barrel. It'll be a number and a letter inside of a circle. If you spot that, we can tell you what year it was made.

Nice gun. I just bought one from my grandpa that I had borrowed from him as a youth and shot my first buck with it. Mine has a Williams peep sight on it. Pretty darn accurate gun and very pleasant to shoot.

I wasn't under the impression that they are rare or worth 800+ bucks either. Any sources or info on that to help me learn more about my gun would be appreciated.

After searching for almost five years I found a 325C at a gun show last year for $275.It's in really good shape.Fantastic shooter at 100 yards with iron sights.

The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70,it's almost a religion.

If you have to take a second shot then you probably shouldn't have taken the first shot.
