Long story short, my beloved 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport was rear ended while parked, by a drunken teenager without insurance. I only had liability, and it has 197,000 highway miles. Restitution hearing for this kid is June 5th, and I may get some money out of this. Damage was $3300. My nieghbor just bought a new Ford to haul his new/used 5th wheel, and is willing to sell his 96 Dodge 1500, with 89,000 miles on it to me for $5ooo. He is putting new tires on it, and getting it full serviced as we speak. He works for a Ford dealership, so gets things at cost. He swears it is road ready without any problems.I am looking at retirement in a few months, so frugality is a must, and I need a decent hunting truck. I can sell my Dodge which has body damage, but otherwise in great mechanical shape. What say you guys? I have trusted the campfire guys to give good advice in the past, and you have always come through.

That's very low miles for a 96, what engine is in it?

Don't expect any kind of MPG from it. Like DoeDumper said, if it is a manual it will run/rattle/and shake until it turns to dust. An automatic may need attention down the road. Either way, it is a good price for a truck with less than 100k miles. Plus, you have a neighbor who can work on it if needed wink
