I know this isn't the "ideal" lr platform., but since I do really love the feel of my encore I'm going to have mgm build me up a heavy factory barrel 6.5 creedmore w/ 1/8" twist so I can shoot 140 amax's thru it at steel and whitetails..my question is what length barrel should I get for it..thinking a 27" barrel with a break should work pretty slick(want the break to keep the muzzlerise down so I can see billet impact better)..does this set up sound decent with a Nikon buckmaster 4.5-14 mil dot scope for a 4-500 yard gun?(longer if I have access to)..also what bullets are u guys liking in your creedmoors?.. not looking to reload at this time and all ive really found is hornady match grade ammo w/ either 120 or 140 grain Amax for around 23$ +/-

I really don't think you'll need that much tube. I'd go 24" and schit can the break, 123gr AMAXes aren't going to flip your muzzle around too much if you know how to shoot prone... you should spot hits and misses just fine. That Hornady factory AMAX stuff is pretty awesome from what I've seen/read. Have fun!

The recoil isnt really a concern of mine...just thought that a break would help prevent the muzzle jumpin around, but i really dont know how much the 6.5 has since ive never shot one...on the barrel i just figured they liked a longer tube since almost all the guns ive seen chambered in it were longer barrels..ill just have to try both 120 and 140 grainers and see what it likes better...ive also head great things about these factory loads...and i read it gives all the reloading info on the box for them so when i start itll be easy

You will be outdoors,go as long as they can make it.. My 6.5CM is 26" and when I re-barrel,it will be 28".
With the 120/123 grain bullets, recoil is a piece of cake(.243),push the 140's hard and it will be noticed when shot from the prone position...cool little round,I really enjoy mine!

Your gona love the Cmooe cartridge. Recoil is nothin trust me. My Cmoor is a 26" bbl. on a 700Rem. action and a wood stock ADL that came with the doner rifle, that was in .308. The butt plate is the old style Rem.4 screw plastic. I shoot it in short sleve T-shirt no problem. If I guess to compare it to something maybe like a 30/30. I have a .300RUM with a break a Mag/Na/Port screw off and it dose help for bench time. A break on a Cmoor seems alittle nuts IMO, but to each his own, good shootin....later

I think ive def decided against the break idea..i just wasnt sure if a break would benefit it in anyway..doesnt seem like it would do much good

Look at H4350 and Varget to the fuel for the ride.My load of 123/125's have the same POI so..no changes from one load to the other.Brass last a long time.Factory ammo is great, what's not to love?
My rifle is a Ruger Hawkeye, trigger tuned, bedded with 26" factory barrel,it now wears a 6x18TT Leupold,it is an absolute ball to shoot!
Get one,have fun!

Sounds like a sweet gun! I love my ruger 300 wm..great rifles..if I wasn't sticking with the encore frame id def be looking at a similar set up..but its hard to not love my encore..it just fits me..I think the hornady amax will be just the trick to make her shine..gonna reload in a few years..but sticking with factory loads tip after I decide what's the next step with my navy career( stay in or get out)

After putting some thought into this 6.5 creedmoor rifle i have plans on...i cant help but toss around the idea of getting it in the dmps lr-6.5 instead of for my encore..love my encore, but have a true lr semi auto seems almost like it is the golden ticket...for this set up i would run a swfa 10x42 sf scope w/ a reflex sight mounted on top of the burris pepr mount...its really got the creative juices flowing now..i can afford to do either option so money wont be a concern..just deciding what i want is the issue haha

+1

If money is not a concern then you might as well go full custom. I love my Encore too but it would not be the first pick for LR shooting. I like the AR platform too but use them mostly as varmint rifles or can bouncers.

THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

Well i should have said within reason its not an issue...im not ready to go full custom just yet...im really pretty set on either the ar or the encore barrel..and may end up with both and use the encore as a deer hunting rifle and the other for whatever i feel like shootin

I think you would be plenty fine with a custom barrel in your encore, it's a much more economically wise choice tha would be a hoot to shoot.

I'm thinking that I am going to prolly go with the ar 6.5 creedmor for starters since I just want one haha..but if I like the caliber I'm going to get the same twist barrel made for the encore as a hunting rifle..the ar will prolly down a few critters., but its also going to be around 14 lbs all ready to go while the encore will be tipping the scales around 8.5-9
