Handled one of these today, not a bad looking SXS shotgun.

Without pics its hard to say.
But many years ago Spain had lots of small makers of shotgus, which would produce guns from very base grade up to best grade. Armas Bost was one of them.
After the DIARM debacle, lots of these small firms shut up shop (went bust) only leaving 7 or 8 of the bigger makers.

Exactly. I have an Armas Erbi boxlock 10-gauge SxS that's a definitely a quality gun, that's definitely as good as an AyA from the same period. Have also seen "affordable" boxlock AyA's made 10-15 years before that were, to put it politely,
POS's.
It all depends on the gun, just as it did in the early 20th century in America, when you could buy a Fox or Parker or a POS.

The only one I ever looked at was on par with the AyA Matador. From what I understand they made some higher grade guns, also.
There are so many makers and grades of guns from Spain that detailed photos are needed to evaluate any of them.

Like MD said, they can be great or POS. Just depends upon when/who made it. I've got a very nice 30" Ugartechea Model 30 (I think. Although it's marked Dickson Falcon) that I think was made about 1969. I've patterned over 100 different loads through it and it's an amazing killer. I had the forcing cones opened to be long and smooth rather than short and abrupt. I also had the chokes opened to .004" and 008" (Skeet and IC) and with the proper loads I can have a spreader load to a full choke pattern. About 1st of August, I plan on putting it up for sale to help pay for the vacation I'm on at the moment.
