I ran a max charge of IMR4064 with 150 XLC's and it shot bug holes at 100 and well under moa out to 300. Advantage IMHO running a 150 Barnes v heavier Part. would be a little less recoil and trajectory. Splitting hairs really but thats about it. 300yds you won't notice much and the recoil is notta in the hunting field. Partitions are only a little cheaper than Barnes so it is really a toss up.

Many here including me that have taken elk with a .270win and 150's.. An -06 with 150's would be even better. It looks like I'll either be running a 150NP, a 150AB or a 150TTSX for elk this year.

What powder r u gonna run while loading for your friend???

I used that combination last Fall on a WY cow elk at about 170 yards. I put two shots tight behind the left shoulder (broadside). Both bullets didn't exit, but did the job. She was a large cow and staggered around for 15-20 seconds before dropping.

This year I'm using a little more gun...9.3x62 w/250 gr TTSX's or Acubonds.

Thread hijack in progress. Mississippi, what load did you use in your '06 to get that speed? I bought a box of 168 ttsx this week.

+1 what load?

Let's hear some 150 TTSX loads while we're at it. I have partially worked up with RS Big Game, but need to confirm things when I find time to hit the range.

Big Game and a 150 ttsx at 3020 fps shows lots of promise in my rifle. I keep trying other stuff for the fun of it, but will probably settle on that load.

Can you give details on shot placement and impact velocity?

TTSX, or TSX? Just curious. Looks like a smaller opening than I'm used to seeing with the TTSXs. Either way, not ideal.

150 TTSX (Blue Plastic Tip), 308 Win (1-10"), 2,840 MV, impact at IIRC, around 140-170 yards. Bullet didn't open and tumbled on impact. Was found backwards on the off side. Bullet hit nothing on its flight.

I have no doubt that expanding mono's generally work well enough (I've used the 168 TSX to good effect), but strange thing do happen with them, just like their frangible hollow point brethren. After all, the expanding mono's rely on a small hollowpoint for expansion, and anyone that's used hollowpoints knows they're prone to weird behavior more often than bullets that rely on a lead tip to initiate expansion.

Very much so "weird behavior." I'm glad to hear that you recovered the animal after that not that the end justifies the means. I would be leary myself after that. My rule of thumb with mono's is "run a weight you can push 3K MV or better or forget it." I can do that wiyh both my '06s with 150's. Out past 300 yds I aim for structure more vs soft vitals to help with lower impact speeds. It has worked for me so far. WT deer only to date.
