On this forum the question "How do I post my photos?" comes up quite often. As a result, I thought that I would outline the basic procedure and have it made into a sticky at the top of the forum. I will base my directions on the use of a Photobucket account since it is free and fairly popular.

1) Enroll on a free photo hosting website to upload pictures to. Most people use photobucket since it is free and easy to use so my directions are based on them.

2) Once you have your Photobucket membership, upload photos to the site from your computer. Do this by clicking the "Browse" button near the center of your screen. This will bring up a window you use to find the pictures you want to upload. (Typically pictures are stored under C:\...\My Documents\My Pictures, but it could be different on each computer). Double-click on the image file that you want to upload. You will see the file address show up in the "Picture" dialog box beside the "Browse" button you just used. Now click "Submit" just below the dialog box. Your pictures will be sent to your photobucket account. It may take some time depending on the size of the image file. If you have more than one image to upload at a time, click the expand arrow (the little "down" arrowhead button) on the "Submit Multiple Pictures" dialog box and select the number of images you want to upload. Follow the same steps for each image as outlined above.

3) Now your images should appear near the bottom of the page. They will be thumbnails that you can double-click on to expand to full size if you want. Underneath each image there will be three dialogue boxes (A Url, a Tag, and an Img box) with text in them. For the purposes of posting a picture here you will only be concerned with the "Img" line. (The URL line can be used in your profile to submit a picture for your avatar, but I am not going to get into that here.)

4) Single click on the IMG text in the "Img" dialogue box. This should highlight the text. Copy this text (Either by using Ctrl+C or right clicking and selecting "Copy").

5) Paste what you have copied into your post here. It should show a [IMG] at the begining and the end of the line you pasted. Make sure that there is a space between your post text and the [IMG]'s (no spaces in the part you pasted, just between what you pasted and the text of your post).

6) Finish off your post and preview it. Make sure the photo is there and then submit your post. If the photo is not there, check your pasted link to make sure you didn't miss a bracket somewhere or inadvertently put a space in the line somewhere.

That should be it. I hope to see all of your great pictures soon!

Thanks for the work! I made a few minor changes... hope you do not find them too heinous...

Would add the magic trick to prevent the photo from showing up too wide and making everybody scroll back and forth is done before the picture is posted to photobucket.

Resize the photo to 760 pixels and it will be optimized for the net.

Thanks SD. I actually couldn't really tell where you changed anything. I forgot to put the part about resizing them in there. That's a good point. It will also save time when uploading the pictures. Especially if you are uploading multiple pictures and they are large.

I appreciate your instructions but I got lost after item 4. Must be half-heimers. Once I click on open do I close Photobucket? How do I bring up photo on my post? Do I click on the inage code & type in the user prompt or type in the text? Neither seems to work. Hunting is easier than using computers for us old farts. Thanks.

Usually what I do is open my web browser twice, one for photobucket and one for this site. What you want to do is copy all the text that is in the IMG text box under the photo you just uploaded to photobucket and paste it directly into your post here.

Way to Go I knew you'd figure it out. Now just another tip..Don't delete from Photobucket unless you don't want us to view your pics anymore. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Nice kitties.
You still don't have the photo posting quite right, though. You have those image brackets before and after the pic. Your post should look like this except without the spaces:

If you use the Instant UBB image code below the post window, just past in the address, don't type in the [image].

Some of these are not crisp and clear but you'll get the basic idea.
1st of all..Got your pictures uploaded to your computer? Great then lets see if this adds to the help already listed above.

Everybody uses a diff program but it's all the same basic principle.
Start off with resizing..I use the microsoft image resizer.
Open your pictures folder
[Linked Image]
Right click on the image you want to upload to 'Photobucket' or picture hosting site of your choice.
[Linked Image]
pick the option of resize and then
[Linked Image]
I usually choose the top option. Ok now you download them to your photobucket site(or the one of your choice). All set on to the next step of posting them at the Campfire. Remember this is Elf's way and in no way shape or form am I saying it's the best way it just works for me.
So we bring up the post that we want to add pictures to. It should look like this..
[Linked Image]
I pick Image from these choices
[Linked Image]
From my photobucket site I pick this. Click on highlight, right click and pick copy.
[Linked Image]
back to the post and fill in this box with the picture you just copied from photobucket. Right click to paste.

Should now look like this

click ok and it appears on your page as this

Preview your post and you can then tell if it worked ok for you. Not liking it then you can try again.

Elf,

You can also just copy the "Image" line from photobucket and paste it directly into the message. That saves you having to use the "Image" button and copy the "HTML" line into that box. The end result is the same, just saves a couple of steps.

Yes thanks Sam. It was kind of a very bare bones picture by picture thing when folks get the hang of the basics they can then fool around with the posting thing and do what they feel comfortable with. AS I know from experience "SOME" and I don't mean all guys only see the top line of anything when it comes to instructions. Kinda why I went with that step. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

No worries. There's more than one way to post a picture... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
