My Norma was put up on a stainless Ruger Mark ll action with a Timney trigger and a Lilja 22 1 in 12 twist .610 at the muzzle barrel. It has New England iron back-up sights, was bead blasted gun boat gray and wears a bedded, pillared and floated H-S Precision stock sporting a Spruce Green w/Black paint job.

358 Norma Mag sounds like a great cartridge (especially for Sambar Con)

I had a bunch laying around from when I owned a 300Win. Also, some people complain about short necks when they use 338 Win.

There's another factor that some favour. The 300WinMag brass needs a neck trim and the shoulder pushed back a tad. You can essentially neck up and adjust the FL die to bump the shoulder so you have full case support on the first firing.

Whilst some are happy relying on the belt for headspace, using 300WinMag and adjusting the FL die carefully allows you to avoid any stretch that may be due to sloppy belt dimensions.

My 358Norma was actually set up to head-space tight on the Go guage to account for some of the 'slop'.
Cheers...

I use nothing but 7 Mag (mostly) and some 338 brass in my 358. Neck length is just fine - better than 300 Win Mag necks are in the original 30 cal chambering. I had a Ruger 77 338 rebored. It works fine. The guy who did my stainless barrel wasn't crazy about doing a Ruger stainless, and it is rough, but it shoots well.
