Yep, season is still open. No clue what the weather will be like. I'd make it right after Jan.1.[weather permitting] all the deer seasons are over, and I could take you to some of the places I hunt, that I can't right now because of deer season. Let me know. If it doesn't work out, come next fall.

10-4 sounds good Mike. I could hit up Woody again and a guy or two in Iowa, plus I may have another place in Indiana and one in Ohio for Sure...Va. if I get that far east...

I'll have to get a picture but my BIL shot the BIGGEST fox squirrel I have ever seen in my life today. Easily between 4-5Lbs. It's body was as big as their mini-dachshund! We were out building blinds for the upcoming doe season and he shot it at about 60 yards. It was huge couldn't believe it. I told him it would easily go Boone and Crockett LOL.

Season closes 31 January. The best times are sooner rather than later since the redtails and great horneds are picking them off pretty steadily. The "rut" is also good (roughly between Xmas and New Years, but I have a hard time pinning its timing down exactly).

Update on BIL's huge squirrel. He took to taxidermist today and the guy couldn't believe it. He told him he can't get a squirrel form that big and he would probably have to use a small woodchuck (groundhog to the easterners)!!!! So he is going to have to get it standing instead of going up a limb like he wanted LOL.

Where was this squirrel shot? The biggest squirrels I've seen were coastal islands off of SC and GA.

Central Michigan near Ashley/Marion Springs. In the 18 acre wood lot 500 yards behind his house. Corn field on 3 sides and maybe 50 acres more connecting to the back.

The only central MI squirrels I shot were pretty normal sized grey squirrels. Not big at all. You must have something really special. Ask the taxi to check with folks that work with animals from the southeastern part of the country, esp. close to the Atlantic Coast. There are huge squirrels there.

good luck, sounds like a pretty cool critter.

I googled up this might give you some leads. Look at the size of that first squirrel relative to the Browning Buckmark

Killed a red fox squirrel in Ohio when I was a kid that measured 21" from nose to base of tail. His tail was just over 10"...a bit over 31 inches overall. Dont know what he weighed. Got a fox Squirrel in Ga. later about the same size...looked like a cat.
