Has anyone used these from the 358 Win on game? How was overall performance. Are these elk capable?

Nope, never used them but the 200 gr TTSX worked very well for us.

Shot lots of whitetails with this bullet and like it, but used 250's for elk & moose. With a little discretion, I suspect the 200 out of a 358 would be effective on elk. Generally speaking, I have had much success hunting with Hornady bullets with absolutely nothing to complain about. I see them as a great match to the modest velocities produced by most 35 calibers.

Will that work with a COAL of 2.8"?

I shot a doe last year with one out of my BLR at about 150 yards slightly quartering away. Load was with 51.0 TAC and hit the left side and took out the opposite shoulder.

I just shot a doe today using a .358 200 grain hornady interlock out of my 35 whelen pushed by 52.0 grains of Varget with it reaching 2494fps. All I can say is DEVASTAION. I could fit my head through the hole in that thing and there was no real need to cut her open to gut her. It could all be done through that bomb crater.

I would NOT recommend this bullet for elk let alone deer. I will be trying those blem 180 grainers I picked up from midsouth next year and If they do the same thing then I will have to switch to partitions.

I have shot quite a few deer with the 200g SP. at least 15 and a black bear as well. I have recovered only 1. I think its a dandy deer bullet. I have shot it in front of 4064 and varget for just under 2500fps. Most of them make a nice hole through and though with lung soup in between. it doesn't seem to leave much bloodshot meat. That said it doesn't have much secional density and it wouldn't be on my short list for Elk.

I also shot a cow elk with a hornady 250 RN and it worked well but if I were going to load one of my 358's for elk or moose now I would run 225NP over TAC.

I shoot the 200gr Hornady from my .358 Win @ 2450fps. Great results on our whitetails, and they are accurate.

What are you loads guys if you do not mind sharing.

I am not sure as I loaded them to 2.9" using 51 grs of TAC. I'll be home in a week and a half and can check if needed. My son and I used this load on a number of animals in Africa and only recovered one bullet from the hip of a cull warthog he shot with a slightly quartering frontal shot.

No problem to load them at 2.8" with 51grs of TAC.

2500 FPS

I have used the Hornady on both deer and black bear. Never had to take a second shot.

I recovered one from a good size whitetail buck. I was on a hillside above a bench when I spotted this buck. He was quartering towards me at about 50 yds. The bullet entered the right front neck/shoulder junction and ranged down and back. The deer dropped on the spot, I found the bullet in the the left rear hindquarter. Classic mushroom, I think I still have it somewhere. That's the only one I've ever recovered. All the rest have passed through.

All that said, I've always planned on the 225 partition for elk (if I ever get there)

I've used IMR 4320 and IMR 4064 in the past, right now I'm playing with TAC, if that doesn't work out, maybe I'll give Reloder 7 a whirl or I'll go back to 4320.

I have shot one smallish whitetail using the 200 gr Hornady. The load was 47.5 gr. of IMR-3031 in Hornady brass with WLR primers. Velocity with that load is as about 2,540 fps. The shot was straight on from about 40 yards. The deer never took a step. The bullet pulverized about 4 inches of spine and stopped somewhere in the guts. It was not recovered.

The rifle was a Hawkeye 358 win.

I've used that bullet (I assume you are talking about the spire point) to take over a dozen whitetails with both the .350 or .35 Whelen with both loaded to only about 2600 fps. At that velocity it works great...blood trails that look like they've been left by a garden hose.

I shot through a large elk cow this year using the 225gr Partition with a MV of 2450fps. I couldn't imagine better results. For deer and black bear I use the 225gr SGK at the same velocity and it is a hammer.

I'm sure the 200gr Hornady would work great on elk but since I couldn't get any 200gr bullet to shoot accurately from my BLR, I'll never know personally.

ANGCorsair, what powders have you tried with the 200s in your BLR? I've used TAC in mine that last two years but the best accuracy I've gotten with the 200s was with IMR 4064. You won't get the accuracy that other powders but you'll get some great accuracy...at least I did.
