I just bought a .338 A-Square, which is a very slightly shortened .338-378 Weatherby (it came out some years before the .338-378), and am wondering if anyone can recommend specific powders?

Go on the Hodgdon site. Lot`s of 338-378 Wby loadings there from the light bullets all the way up to the 300 grainers.
I happen to use H-1000 and Retumbo. But there are a few others listed.

In my .338/378 I got the best accuracy with H-1000 but slightly higher velocity with IMR-7828. I'd go with H-1000 first.

I run the 225 gr Accubonds at 3385 fps with Retumbo from my 28" barreled 338-378, makes a fine deer load.  Use the 225 TTSX's at the same speed for everything else, been thinking the 300 gr Accubond at 3000 fps with same powder would be a formidable all game long range load. Gunner

H1000 would be my first choice,RL25 and VVN170 is what to try if H1000 does not work.

Going into Anchorage 12/13 so will stop by SW and pick up 8-pounders of H-1000, Retumbo and US 869. Plus some various .338 bullets to play with.
