My great uncle has hunted elk out west since before WWII and killed many, but mostly for meat and not trophy. During the 70's and 80's he took a yearly trip from Arkansas to Colorado with his horses for a week or two of back country hunting. The last few years he has not been able to go. Not because he wasn't able, but because other family members couldn't go. His long time hunting partners are long gone. This year he went to Kansas to hunt a high fence ranch hunt. Yeah, I know, but this was probably his last elk hunt. It was mostly to remember the good times over the last 70 years he has had hunting elk, plus a chance to get a trophy rack. He was happy, so I was happy.

Living 98 years and still able to go hunting. That is one heck of an accomplishment. I am glad he got to go one more time.

Heck yes! Good for him walking the earth for darn near a century is quite an accomplishment and to be healthy enough to still be hunting is really amazing.

Whats really funny is he has taken to the WSM rounds. He has had several 270 WSMs and finally settle on a 300WSM as his main hunting rifle.
I took him to Cabelas last month. As usual, lots of people came up and asked him if they could help him find anything. Every single one of them he told: Yes son, I'm looking for a gentle wider woman who goes to church, can drive, and likes to eat out. Every single one of them. We went out to eat and he told the waitress she needed to sit in his lap so he could hear her better.

Damn! I feel young now. I've got another 28 years if I can do as well.
Good on him.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a hunting license and that's pretty close.

BUT you left out one very important detail... what kind of gun is in the pic?!? He has several, but I think that one was his BAR with a BOSS barrel.

My hunting partners are mostly in their sixties and seventies, and I'm only in my 30's. Hope I still want to get out and go when I'm walkin' it alone. Good for him, and God bless him for his example.
