Tell me what you can about this cartridge: I'm looking at a post-war '03 fat-barrel gun.

Where did it come from, who wrote about it and when, and is it truly a .30-30 wildcat (therefore rimmed) cartridge in a '03 bolt?

"Improved Cartridge Loading" cartridges were a line of wildcats originated by the Juenke brothers when they owned the Saturn gun shop in Sparks, NV.

I know nothing about that cartridge and haven't been to Saturn since 1970 or 1971.

Yes. This gun came from their shop.

Nailed it! Nailed it better professing your further ignorance, which I thought I was better at.

We remain mutually and admittedly ignorant. Blissfully perhaps!

Don't cut yourself short: You gave ICL interpretation, and Saturn reference. More than I had.

As a boy that rode his Shetland Pony in the Winnemucca, Nevada Centennial Parade (1964), you gave me a piece of my Nevada I did not have.

Tahnka,

My Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions lists the cartridge in question. As stated it is based on the .30-30 Win or .219 Zipper. Minimal body taper and a 38 deg shoulder. A case length of 2.01" ; neck length of: .298" ; and length from base to shoulder of 1.63"

Only one load is listed: 50 gr. bullet with 30 gr. of IMR-4895 for a velocity of: 3575 f.p.s.

Pretty potent lil' number, eh? But sadly it can be beaten by the .22/250 quite easily with factory loads... You can read more about it in P.O. Ackley's book, Vol. 1...
