Beautifully figured Walnut stock, red pad is faded and hard, blue is 98% or better, cross-bolt safety that I don't mind, no checkering although I prefer checkering.

It's been on the consignment rack for almost six months and the shop said the owner will not budge off the 440.00 + tax price.

What do ya'll think?

FWIW, I paid $125 & $200, OTD, for the last two .35 cal Marlin 336's I bought - one 3 years ago, the other 2 years ago.

The $125 gun was a "jammer", made in 1968 - which I fixed in 15mins via installing a new loading gate - The loading gates are their own spring, and will foul the lifter when the spring tension goes walkabout.

The $200 gun was a 1963 Model SC (Sporting Carbine) in 95% condition.

The one I bought last year I got at a local pawn shop for $200 out the door. Pre-safety, beautiful highly figured walnut stock.

I picked up one on gunbroker a couple of years ago. '68 RC, almost mint. I do not recall the exact bid price, but shipped to my dealer, taxes and a new Williams Foolprof receiver sight, I was out about $385. Not exactly a steal, but better by several bucks than the going rate in our market. I really needed it. As of today, I have yet to shoot it. I suppose I should have skipped the new sight. That would have put it just over $300 OTD.

Ya'll must be east, north or both because I hardly ever see a 35 on the rack, a 30-30 on the other hand are everywhere.

I've bought 2 in the last year one older SC for $300 and the other was $350, that's about what they go for around here and are a little hard to find. I think PA and north is where the highest number are. I think my local dealer said he could get me a new one for around $450 when I was looking.

$440.00 is a fair price.I always hear about the $200 to $300 guns but for some reason have never actually seen one.I sold two of my 336A`s for $700.00 a pop and had guys waiting in line.Any pre Remington Marlin is going to get a good buck.

Try Kittery Trading Post in Kittery Maine...

www.kitterytradingpost.com

Go to used guns and then do a search on 35 Remington..comes right up with 2 Marlins and 3 TCs.

They have two used ones right now...one with a scope for $400 and one that sounds just like what you are looking for for $335.00.

Supposed to be 90% condition with crossboly safety which would probably have the checkered stock. One can get rid of the safety easy enough. They usually charge $25 to ship..

I found a 1956 straight stock SC last year for $350 with an older scope... Fun shooters...Bob

I have one of the rare and elusive $200 rifles. A 1952 336 RC in .35 rem. There is a good reason it was so cheap, it is not blued, it is greened. The finish is the color of green parkerizing mottled with brown but it has a smooth finish as if blued. Not sure how it got this way, probably a refinish gone bad, but it is fugly. I was hesitant to give him the 200, but he mechanicals look OK and I'll try to save it.

I see 336's around here in pawn shops all the time. Most are 30-30 with a 35Rem occasionally. Generally the 35's don't bring a premium but do seem to sell quicker. Most go for $200-300 depending on condition. I can buy average 30-30's all day for $250.

I decent one is bringing $400 to $500 in my neck of the woods, and don't even ask about a 39A.

Well, when I do see one ... they run 350-550 depending on condition.

But then, I don't know that I have ever seen one for 125.00. At least not in the last 20 years or so...

I still have an eye out, might pick up a Lee Loader to bring on some good karma.

That sounds way high for one here in Michigan. Average of $325-$350 round here for a nice one.
