Kute, I know YOU know gear so I put a lot of stock in your opinion of the Kifaru. Ditto Ed T. I wonder whether this bloke had one of the early ones from offshore production?

Anyway, brother do I remember the Synergy... looked great on paper but was, basically, torture to carry! I gave it to a friend going on a long tour of Europe... didn't have the heart to sell it to him!

Thanks for the offer on Arcteryx, may take you up on that!

A 69" Versalite for barrels of good brew... I'm going to work on it right now <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />!

Take care you old Viking...

You are not the only one that hikes allot. Saying that someone doesn't use their gear so they don't know what they are taking about seems a bit harsh. I don't own any Kifaru packs but some things like over sized zippers on the shelters really made a big difference for me in cold nasty weather. But some people don't like the Kifaru shelters like I do. Some people don't like the Hennessy Hammock. I like the darn things but I don't imply that those who don't have never slept in one enough times. But I do appreciate your honest opinion on the Kifaru pack. I enjoy hearing from people that dont like gear as much as those that do. I never even heard of Mystery Ranch before. I wonder if they make a military pack that uses Molle webbing so I can attach my pockets to it.

Well here we go again in defense of myself again, Never did I bash Patrick personally when you assume the product of a company in your name and your name gets bashed because of an inferior product (ITS NOT PERSONAL) other than the fact that an owner like Patrick assumes the quality control of his company. But he is charge of the design of the pack and the materials used are waaaaaaaaay behind the times. I assumed alot of things based on the rumors and rhetoric that I fell into here on the monkey telegraghs and went ahead and bought one based on OPINION of others and it was a MISTAKE. My true advice to those shopping for the perfect pack is to go try them on, add alot of weight to them and walk around, it is the only true way to justify spending your hard earned money. By the way Brad, I have been into Mysterys shop before, and actually had one of their seamstress build me a little custom daypack, great little company. Plus it is right next to the Rivers Edge where I spend my summers helpin people chase fish.

KCM-270 Never said it couldnt be done, I carried a couple of 100 lb loads with the Kifaru I just said that it is doubtful that you were real comfortable and in my experience it was horrible. My question for you is why in the h!@@# would anybody pack elk quarters with the bone in, sheeesh man, thats what knives are for, unless you like nawwing on bones, doesnt make sense to me, email me and Ill draw some instructions on how to take the bone out. Then being the incredible hulkster that you are you could pack out 2 fronts and a hind while running up hill both ways.

Talk about someone using the monkey telegraph. mtblackdog, your statements are very conflicting. 200 miles in a year. Thats a long ways? Designs behind the times? That must be why they sell so many military packs, huh?

But I guess you are a legend in your own mind.

No MR< Ed that is not many miles at all, when you do the math that is only 20 days of 10 miles, when you have things to do like pack shed elk horns, spring bear season, summer scouting trips, August packing camps in, September chasing bulls, October And November guiding sheep and chasing high country mulies, I was probably being alot conservative in milage. Now Mr Ed since you took the cheap shot why dont you get your arse off the couch and figure out for yourself that 200 miles really is just a walk in the park.

Yeah, that is about what he is, this reminds me of some other bozos on this forum and Kifaru.net who bash Patrick.....the kind who change their identities more often than their gonch.

mtnblackdog, you are full of schitt and you act like an azzhole, so, go troll somewhere else!

Well MR<Dog, That dosen't seem very far to me. 'Course I have done quite a few 60 mile two day trips with my Kifaru Siwash. But then again when I pack light it's a bit less than your 65 lbs.

BTW, I run mountain ultra marathons, so no I'm not talking out my ass. I have gone 60 plus miles in less than 15 hours in the mountains with 12000' of elevation gained and lost.

So get your own arse off the couch, Mr<Dog

I don't see any good reason for this...... And I mean everyone. Come on people. We are talking about packs not people's mothers.

Jamie, every single post that you have made on this topic so far has contained sneering references to other posters here and those among us who own/use Kifaru gear. You called Kevin "hulk", you implied that we Kifaru users were monkeys and never actually used our packs and you mocked Ed's name. In addition to this, you slagged Patrick from the first post and stated that your opinions were based on statements made by some un-named clerks in an un-named mountain store who outfit Himalayan climbers; this is all the sort of thing that makes we regulars here kinda suspicious and kinda pissed off, we have seen it before, from phonies.

Now, you may be one hell of a mountain man, but, so far, you sure don't impress very many people here with your rhetoric or your comments about equipment. IF, again, IF, you had such a serious problem with Kifaru, WHY did you not talk to Patrick himself, the guy is legendary for his devotion to making his customers satisfied OR refunding their money, seems a simple thing to me.

I am almost 60 years old, I ws born in the small mountain town of Nelson, B.C. and spent the greater part of my life working alone in the mountains and isolated wilderness parts of B.C., Alberta, the NorthWest Territories and have visited the Yukon and Alaska. My wife was an outpost nurse in the Yukon and the NWT, my hunting/backpacking partner has climbed in the Hindu Kush, the Alps and here in Canada, he has hunted all over the World, even in Asia. I have worked in the largest mountain equipment outlet in Canada and now have been hiking for a solid 50 years.

So, I have the background, education, training and field experience to know whereof I speak and I find your posts less than believable and your comments rather infantile. If, you don't like this, mend your manners and you might make friends here. I would point out that EdT, in particular, is one of the most knowledgable posters on equipment that I have seen on this or any forum, he is not a poser, neither is Kevin and neither am I.

I would be willing to bet that you are under 30, have had relatively little REAL isolated wilderness life experience and tend to be a bit of a social misfit; the type of posts that you have been making are symptomatic of that personality type which is all too common on these forums. Simply put, you are NOT accomplishing anything here, except to make yourself look like a damned fool.

My name is Dewey Riesterer and I reside in Vancouver, B.C. The phone is unlisted due to my wife's profession, but, anything that you might wish to say on the phone is just as well said here.....this is a good place and we are good people, so, maybe cool out and make your points a bit less aggressively?

I pack them out bone in for one simple reason: the meat processor I use makes the world's best Italian sausage, and he won't take boneless meat until January. Hence, either I wait, or I bring them out with the bones.

WRT knowing how to bone out an elk, I was deboning animals while you were still crapping in your pampers.

WRT being a hulkster, I'm 5'6" tall....try again. Most folks tower over me. But I know what I am doing, and when I don't know, I find someone that does, rather than blow smoke out of my posterior orifice.

WRT experience, my long day was 19 miles. But I know Ed T is for real....very few folks are in his class for mountain running. I'm a heck of a lot slower than that. I have never met Kutenay, but I am certain he's for real, too.....a lot of experience.

There is a difference between 20 years of experience and one year of experience repeated 20 times. Apologies to all but mtnblackdog.

Dewey-Well once again your assuming, read back through the posts. And please tell me where I attacked anybody personally BEFORE I was scorned for doing nothing more than adding an opinion on what I consider an inferior product in which I recieved very poor customer service ectt..... Read your post Dewey you where the one who came in front line defense of Kifaru. As far as you assuming my age and my lifestyle Ill give you a little detail just so you feel fuzzy. I grew up on my familys 30,000 acre ranch in Northern Wyoming fourth generation. I have worked hard labor since I could pick up a shovel and ride a horse, I started guiding wilderness hunting trips in the thorofare country (furthest point from a road in lower 48) SE border of Yellowstone when I was 18 years old, I have worked as a hotshot firefighter, I have serve my country on foreign soils. I have guided and been on sheep hunts in three continents and a half dozen countries. I have personally killed more than three dozen pope and young animals with a recurves and longbows, and too many animals to count with a rifle. I have a masters degree in wildlife biology I speak three languages somewhat effeciently and am definitely older than 30 years old. I grew up in one of the most rough and tumble places in the world and never back down from a good scrap, and I never take simple men and simple ideas for granted EVER! Please Dewey dont assume anything. Assumption has taken down whole countries and men better than both of us. Enough Said.

KCM270-Now I understand, and I appologize. I bet though that if you sweet talked the butcher and used some good game bags the butcher would understand sure would save on your back.

He turns down $10,000 per day in work during the hunting season, and he's a friend of mine. He does not waver even for friends.

Hence, I'm happy to haul back the bones.

I think that reply demonstrates everything that any of us needs to know here; the academic qualifications and linguistic abilities are especially amazing, in view of the grammatical standard of the writing. I guess killing so many animals must give one some special insight into life, the mountains and gear that we ordinary folks lack.
