Which would you buy for squirrel hunting. A good quality scope will be added. Please do not make price part of the answer.
I have the opportunity to purchase either one tomorrow.
Thanks
Phil

Most any good bolt will trump a 10/22, especially a CZ

Bolt action vs semiauto

In a .22LR, semiauto.

For hunting the CZ. For plinking the 10/22.

I hope to have both (have a 10/22 now) by next season, so I'll have to wait on any comparisons... wink

I got a CZ 455 with .17HMR and .22LR barrels. I did not have a .17HMR and wanted one. I put the .17's barrel on and the rifle is very accurate.

I like the 455's action. It's really a good size, smooth and solid. I have M52 .22's and a 40X. The 455's trigger was easy for me to tune. I doubt a 10-22 would be.

I also have a M75 Winchester sporting. My go-to sporting .22 has been a M61 Winchester until the 455 came along. The .17HMR trumps the .22LR for the way I hunt.

I'm not a fan of either rifle though both are certainly fine, if that's what you like. But for less money you can find a used Remington 500 series (probably 4 or 5 different versions) for less money and bet better accuracy in a nicer rifle. And then there are all the nonbolt, not semi's that are available on the used market that are just as accurate, or more, and nicer (in my opinion). If you really want a brand new rifle, those are fine, but there are so many interesting rifles to choose from.

I have no knowledge of the Remington 500 series. Which of the various versions do you like the best?

I like good wood and blue steel and full size rifles, both the CZ and the Ruger seemed small.

Oh, I'm not a bolt fan. I have friends that use them, collect them and shoot the hell out of them. The rifles have impressed me woith their accuracy and dependabilty and classic looks, but not enough that I would use one over a Marlin 39a or a Winchester singleshot. The Remingtons might feel a bit bigger than the CZ and there is one bull-barrel target model that will for certain, but I am not sure that's what you want.

Sorry I can't be more help but I just wanted to point out that there are whole bunch of of good rifles that are used, and really great bargains. I'm sure there are many many more.

I understand. My wife's lever actions rule the house. Her little 9422 is very accurate and the rules are, "keep your hands off it"
lol
Thanks

My one semi auto .22 is a 241 Remington, takedown. Much nicer than a 1022 probably a little more expensive than a one however.

They are a much beefier version of the Browning Semiauto, and about 1000 times more interesting.

The 10-22 is a new one at a local dealer. It has a nice walnut stock and a basket type checkering like a Winchester 88.
price was around $379.00. I have not seen this type of checkering/stamping on any 10-22 before now.

The CZ is also new and looks like a 452 but is a 455, nice walnut fine checkering. Price about $450.00

The 1022 is a cheap plinker untill you spend three times the original purchase price replacing everything except the action.

The 455 is a nice precision rifle that will greatly benefit from a $20 YoDave trigger kit.

If you want to shoot tin cans at 25 yards and burn through a bunch of ammo the 10-22 is what you want.If you want to shoot squirrels in the head at 50 yards get the CZ.

RH is spot on. I have both and this describes both funding trends and general use patterns to a T, although the Ruger does hunt occasionly.

I'm in the minority here but I think the 10/22 is fine for squirrels. My 10/22 was a Christmas present from my dad when I was 11 in 1976 and it is plenty accurate and a nice little rifle for the squirrel woods, I've never had a problem killing squirrels with it. That said, I have 2 BRNO Mdl 1 bolt actions (the ancestor of the current CZ rimfires) and a Kimber of Oregon M82 that are my go-to guns now. I wouldn't hesitate to use the Ruger but I just prefer bolt actions.
