Yes!
Funny you should ask today!
My wife, who's been visiting her family in Hawaii for the past two weeks, while I've been home with 3 kids, called today and told me what she bought for me...
More T-shirts, socks, and underwear. B-dub.
Bummer. You might ask for a "lei" when she gets home.
[Linked Image]
(sorry, I'm getting as bad as Tex).
Only new thing I've bought lately is some Vhitivory 560 powder. It comes up the most as least pressure with highest velocity loads when inputting data in Quick Load. Looking forward to trying it in my magnums.

Last week I was in the big city (Anchorage) and picked up a couple of rifles one for me and one for my father.
I found a clearance out weatherby Mark V in 338WM for 513.00, and got it for myself. as for my dad I found him a Rem 700 BDL Varmint Special in 7-08 for 380.00 and couldn't resist. Both rifles were NIB. [Linked Image]
Pretty impressed with the Weatherby so far, it's shooting pretty nice (under an Inch), but I think it will do better. [Linked Image]
Paul

Thanks Tex,
I picked them up at the Air force base exchange.
Now if you want to hear something that'll make you cry, 2 months ago i was up there and found they had a 375H&H Rem 700 SS for, Now prepare yourself, 300.00. No S@#!. What should make you cry is that i didn't buy it, not enough money in the bank.
Now when i returned home i remembered that i had a credit card with about 10 times that much room on it in my wallet and just forgot about it (try not to use plastic for my guns). Kinda wanted to kick my own a$$ after that.
i'm going to go cry now,
Paul

Paul,
I bought my 416 Taylor donor rifle from the Elmandorf Exchange. Nice store, could use more rifles though. I wasn't aware they sold used rifles. But, I haven't been back since they opened the mega-store by the old hospital.
------------------
Brian
The 416 Taylor WebPage!

I bought a new rifle for my girls the other day, a single shot Lakefield(savage). I'll have to cut the stock some, but they'll do fine with their first rifle. Bought a box of ammo today for it, just for 'breaking it in', eh? Daddy's are supposed to do that, give the rifles the once over. My FFL buddy is looking for a new levergun for me, a stainless M92 45LC. Sold my 45-70 to some Nat Guard guy out of Anchorage. Moving all my guns to stainless, if I can help it. Plus, it gives me an excellent excuse to buy a new stainless Guide Gun 45-70. ~~~Suluuq

Wanted a GOOD Bolt action for practice and small game hunting and wound up buying a new
Ruger 77/22 in 22 mag. It has the target Grey
heavy barrel and Laminated stock. Stuck a Burris Signature 3x9x40 w/ Posi-Lock on it
and I really love it. With the CCI Maxi-Mag
HP's,it will average .97"@ 100yds for 3-shot
groups. The CCI +V's average 3.2"!!!
The only thing I've done to it is, had my
trusty local gunsmith hone the trigger down
to 1.5lbs.
I hope to use it alot this summer on crows,
groundhogs and who knows, might just give it
a try on Wild Hogs(Head shots only). I plan
on shooting it atleast three times a week
for practice. May have to bring it with me
when I go Hog hunting with Badger this spring.Oughta add a littlebit of excitement
to the hunt! Take care...Littlebit
Hey littlebit: What did the ruger run? I love the 22mag, everyone keeps telling me that are not as accurate as the 22lr? If I can get what you are I would be thrilled!! Sounds like a cool rig.
Don't they do a 10/22 in the mag now also? Your boltgun would be more accurate I am sure but mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn. The 10/22 would be a kick to shoot wouldn't it? Yoweeeeeeeeee. (grin)
tex
I love being able to fix stupid crap in my posts!!! Coem on guys hang around.
[This message has been edited by texas_hunter (edited January 28, 2001).]

BW,
They don't sell used rifles at the exchange. the rifles I bought were just old. guess that they had them for a while and just wanted to get rid of them.
The new exchange is much nicer and they do carry more rifles and pistols but not much more.
BigBoss6X6,
I'm down here in Kenai, active duty Coast Guard. Transfer soon, I think that I'm getting orders to Wilmington, NC. But they haven't told me for sure yet.
You guy's with the 77/22Mags,
Try the remington 40gr Hollow points. I get them to shoot 5 shots under and inch at 100yrds. Best group has been .89.
Paul

The rifle looks like new only it has a trigger job, bedded, barrel floated, the scope rings lapped. No scope, I took the rings off and shot it with open sights, put the rings back on and put rifle up. Anyone interested can e-mail me and we can talk. I sold pumpgun a rifle and he can be my reference. -- no
BW,
I forgot about that recruiter job!!! I'm currently a MK2 Just lateraled over from DC2. Hoping to get back up here soon but it looks like I'm going to a boat next a 210 the Diligence out of Wilmington, NC. Don't want to but to make rank I have to get the sea time. I just went over 6 in December and I hope to be a first before 8 1/2. That's the plan but plans often change.
Kenai is a MSD. It's a 5 man detachment. been here 4 years and I love it but I have to leave.
Sitka has to have some great black bear hunting!
Good hunting
Paul

Paul,
Well, your close about the black bear hunting. There's good black bear hunting down on a few of the islands south of here (Kupreanof, Kuiu, Prince of Wales, etc). But on Baranof (where Sitka is) there are only Brown bears. If you remember that the ABC islands (Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof) along with Kruzof, are the islands with brown bears, then all the others have black bears. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, as bears can swim. ;-) Seems that black and brown bears don't co-exist well together on islands. They do okay on the mainland though. Samething with Moose and Deer. I heard from a ADF&G guy that the deer have somekind of brain worm that kills moose.
I feel very fortunate that the Guard decided not to put the Jayhawks on the back of 270's! They tried, and the helo just barely fit. But I guess they figured it wasn't worth it. So until they buy bigger Cutters, I'm safe from the boat world!
------------------
Brian
The 416 Taylor WebPage!

(has spin marks on the cylinder)
My hunting partner did better(much better). A pre 64 Winchester in 220 Swift. Never been shot, has not had a scope mounted on it (yet) It is in new condition but did not have the box. He gave $1700.

You guys are spoooiled! All I got since Xmas,is a Rem700VS 22-250,700BDL S/S 7-08(in a trade),and the 25-06Ackley built. I could have very much used the 7-08VS,the Bearcat,NO's 375,and a jillion others. But my 8 1/2mo pregnant Wife, laid down the law. So I get nothing new,for a spell. You boys have very nice tastes,in "toys"......

I recently ordered a "throwing tomahawk" from Cabelas. I am planning to practice and then maybe take up scalping. Does anyone know what the headhunters are paying these days?

I got excited and layed away a new Remington ss/laminate.300 WM. When Tex finally sends me the balance of the coin for the rifle I sold him, I will get the .300 out of hock. All this horse trading sure makes a feller ansy...doesn't it Tex? My trigger finger sure needs some ointment. Tex are you as excited as I am? Flinch

Only "new" thing I've gotten is a Win '94 Big Bore in 375 that I had given to me. Don't have a clue what I'm going to do with it yet. It's a Top Eject model. I didn't have a '94 , not even a 30-30 so maybe I'll just hang on to it.Everyone needs at least one '94 Winchester. You guys and your 375 H&H's have gotten me thinking again! I turned down a decent deal on a SS M700 375 last year, shoulda done it!

Thunderstick,I went through the knife/axe throwing stage. It was in a Log Camp, many moons ago. I ordered a Tuahati(sp?) Competition throwing axe, from Bailey's. Then the usual assortment of Hibben designed throwers. I cut a large round off a log and placed it in the hallway,of the Cutter's Bunkhouse. It was the nightly ritual after chow. Couldn't throw the axe indoors, had a larger round, outside the bunkhouse. I actually got fairly good(I thought). I'm sure guys from that camp, are still telling THOSE stories. Actually, several other guy's enjoyed it and ordered throwing knives as well. Never got any scalping practice in,though at the time, there were several candidates on my "Practice List"(grin)..........

As a matter of fact I just got it mack from getting it cut to fit her and had almost 1/2 pound removed and installed a Decelerator. Hey Stick, Now if you expand this topic from "looky what I got!" to "golly I wish I had a......." I'm sure business would pick up. While I'm here "I wish I had" a 7-08, a 22-250 Ackley and my mdl 52 project finished.pak

Got a NalPak Tuffpak here about 2-3 weeks ago.
Got a new Ruger Blackhawk 5 in .45 Colt just this past Saturday. Im really enamored of that caliber. Punches harder than my .41 with less boom and can be loaded to punch just about as hard as a .44 with lots less boom and bite. Now why wasnt I satisfied with the 4 5/8 .45 Blackhawk I already had? Hmmm, must be because I have a holster for a 5 Blackhawk, so of course had to get a gun to fit it!
Now, last but definitely not least, drum roll and fanfare of trumpets please.
After exactly one long year my new LEFT HAND Stainless Steel Winchester Custom Shop Model 70 in .375 H&H Magnum is all ready! Yeehaaawwww! Leslee called on Thursday and my FFL dealer had his credit card info to her in about an hour. It is being sent 2nd day air so should get here Tuesday or Wednesday. Ordered a set of Talley rings and bases for it which should get here tomorrow as well.
Oh, yeah, I also was appointed Ambassador to South Africa, won the Powerball lottery and went on another date with Cindy Crawford (you should see where her OTHER beauty mark is), but thats all pretty trivial compared to that new Winchester!
Well, as you know I make all the gun shows and here recently I have a AMT 45 Skipper, (old style, Colt Commander, with adjustable sights, poormans Gold Cup), a S&W 629, 44 mag Mountain Gun 4", a Remington 700 Classic BDL 35 Whelen, shoots like a dream. (Shut up Tex). It's been raining here almost constantly and the dirt pit where I shoot is deep mud. More rain in forecast,UGGG! -- no

Well, not much new hear. My dear wife got me a book on moose, I believe the title is Moose ecology and management in North America. Anyhow, big ass book, and the line is, either I now have no excuses for not getting moose for the freezer, or I'll know exactly why I don't. Trouble is, I haven't had time to sit down and read it.
I'm supposed to finally get my 218 masburn barrel for the contender, my theory is 22 hornet rifle power from a 10" pistol, should be hear anyday, and I'll find out for sure.
Future stuff, I'm supposed to be getting a/the 416 Howell reamer, a 2.5" 404 based 416. I'm also looking at getting a lathe to do my own work. If that happens I'll be in serious deep cover mad scientist mode building all sorts of goodies, and catching all sorts of grief from the wife. Wish me luck.

Toons,
Oh yeah, I know about keeping the boss happy! I made her a jewelery box to put the many pairs of earings I've gotten her for special occasions, or more often, just because. I also spent last night painting instead of being a troll in the garage.

Do controlled hunts count?

This year I was somehow lucky enough to receive 2 controlled hunt tags in Idaho. One for Mule Deer bucks and one for either sex Elk (I’m hunting for a bull). Both in south-central Idaho, consecutive weeks, both muzzleloader, the first two weeks in December. My employer was gracious enough to let me take that time off, so I’m hunting both.

I figured I’d be in snow and needed someway to get around so I bought a brand new 2019 Yamaha Grizzly 700cc.

I needed something to haul the Griz in and somewhere to keep it at home so I bought a 7’x14’ Haulmark enclosed trailer.

And for the Griz, heated grips/thumb warmer, rear cargo box, tire chains, Kolpin rifle scabbard.

For the trailer, E-track w/ E-straps.

I’ve been spending money like a crazy man. I had a friend tell me if I don’t spend it, someone else will. That helped a little ...😁.

I bought a few new rifles, some 99’s, an old Sako L-61, a 700 C-grade. I’ve been bad!
