I have a Rem 700 in 30-06 that shoots 3"groups @100yds.
It has the CDL stock and blue bbl. Bbl is floated and trigger breaks on 3.5#approx.
I have tried several brands of ammo and bullet weights.
I have not tried handloads.
Hart rifles has an accuracy package for $300+.
Anyone had this done?
Did it help?
Any other ideas.

Hill Country Rifles but I think it cost more? Handloads may or may not correct it, but if it is actually shooting 3 inch groups at 100 and your sure the scope is ok and stock screws are tight to correct poundage then I would look at bedding and barrel issues? Any Remington I have ever purchased has shot 1 1/2 or better with most shooting 1 inch or under! Hope this helps?

After the scope and rings confirmation, buy a new take-off barrel and send to Redneck for a retube.

First take a close look at scope,rings,stock fit,ammo,and barrel crown.Then if possible get someone who knows what to look for take a look with a bore scope.Any of these could fix the issue or tell you that a new barrel is in order.

300 is what a TOP line barrel will cost... then add a bit more of course to install.. before I"d spend 300 on a touch up job I"d have it rebarreled at the same time.
Assuming you've done all the other checks.
But often its simple as a recrown job for 25-75 bucks...
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

I had HCR do a rifle forme several yrs ago and was pleased.
It now costs $595 and they only guarantee with one ammo.
Thought I would try Hart.
I will ck everything again before sending the rifle to Hart.

Two different guys have mentioned the barrel crown as a possible issue/solution here. I don't know if a crown has ever given me trouble and am curious. Can someone explain what to look for, and maybe show pics of a problem - or cite a good article about how to diagnose crown issues?

don't just send the gun off for a new barrel. that may not fix it. I had a remington I tried that with and after it got a new krieger barrel it shot the same and believe it or not the only load it shot well was the only one the other barrel shot well. finally sent the gun to greg tannel and another new barrel and now its finally fixed. bedding all the tricks never solved the issue before. you can see if a gunsmith has any ideas or sell it and get a tikka.

OK, it's floated but you didn't mention if the receiver has been epoxy bedded? If the receiver is just screwed down bearing on the wood it would be the first thing to do. Get it bedded>

I've had 4 rifles accurized at HCR. It's expensive, but I've been pleased with the results.

Try some Sierra 165 gr. BTHP Gamekings, 58 gr. of H4350, Fed 210 primer.
If it will not shoot that load...you have issues.

If you are talking about RW Hart, I have not used their factory rifle accuracy package. I have had two rifles built by them on Rem700 actions. I have been happy with both builds.

Do you have rifles that shoot alot better in your hands ? If so, that's not the problem.
Did you check the odvious, action screws, scope rings and mounts, etc. ? If so, that's not it.
Did you try another scope ? That's where I'd look next.
Then comes bedding, barrel crown, chamber ( the condition of the fired brass ?)
You've tried several different loads. any of them "premium ammo" ? If so, I don't think handloads will do much for you.
I'd run through the above before shipping it off for an accuracy job. E

Double check the fundamentals It has been my experience that it does not take much to get a Rem 700 to shoot. Often times, when one free-floats a barrel, one finds that the barreled action sits slightly lower in the stock. I've almost always had to remove some material from the front mounting screw. Is your front action screw touching your bolt lug? Even slightly?
