Anybody have plans for an insulated dog house?
I am planning on building a house inside of a shed for the new lab pup we will be bringing home in a month and am looking plans to make a two room house with a divider to be removed in the summer.
Anyone have anything they are willing to share?

I bought a MutHut, cut a two inch thick piece of foam insulation (the suff they use on houses), serpintined a piece of pipe heater tape on top held in place with U nails, and then placed a piece of quarter inch paneling over top. The thermostat of the heater tape was placed in an electrical junction box and metal flex conduit leads from the house. This gives your pup a temperature controlled dog house. The floor will be warm to the touch. Your pup will love you for your efforts. I don't have plans but will send some images if you want more of an explaination.

Line it with cedar kennel bedding. Keeps them warm in the winter, dry, repels insects, and keeps them smelling nice.

I'm not only talking about running electricity to the dog house, but just plain spoiling the dog like that. Within a month he's going to want cable and internet access... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Jim, trust me, the heated house is just on the surface of her spoiled nature. Most of the time she stays in the house and she now believes she is a lap dog. She has also taught me to cook for her and eats more biscuits than most dogs.
On the other hand, it has been an awfull lot of years since I have searched for a bird or came home empty handed. And I have never been afield when I wished I was hunting over someone elses dog. All in all I feel I am a very lucky guy.

Most dogs (puppies especially) chew the corners of their houses and anything else, depending on their nature. I'd think about bullet proofing anything a dog's going to be around when left alone. Once they get older the desire to chew seems to go away or lessen. Make the roof easy to remove and use galvonized metal over plywood....glue it down with construction adhesive and it'll stay put.

Thanks for the input gents. I found a number of general guidelines by doing a google search on the web and hope I am using the correct dimensions for the house.
My wife says every dog in the neighborhood is going to be envious of the Taj Mahal I'm building for the pup.
