Anybody use this combination? I'm looking at the Nosler SHOT 55 gr bullets for this application.

25 g looks like a starting load.

24.6 gr fills to the bottom of the neck, with a little tapping.

I'll try that load and see how it does.

I'm guessing there is a reason to not feed them ball powder but I'll be damned if I know what it is.

A very slight one, only. I'm finishing off a can of 3031. And didn't feel like breaking the seal on a can of 335 or TAC.

And I read that the original powder Stoner designed the 5.56 around was a modified 3031.

After loading a box, I can see why they wanted to go with a ball powder so badly! grin

I think I'll finish off the can by loading 30-30 or 25-35!

Just got a new 6x45 and tried 25grs IMR 3031 with the 70gr Sierra Matchking...pretty much 5-shot ragged hole groups...none larger than 1/2" @ 100yds. Works for me as I have a lot of 3031 on hand.

I think 3031 is one of the more under appreciated powders out there, but it's a bit bulky for 223 capacity cartridges where there are so many great, less bulky powders available.
