I used to string an electric wire around a section of meadow for my horses when I was camping by my truck. Most of the time it worked great.
One time the ground was snow covered and I walked around the wire to check it and noticed grizzly tracks walked right up to the wire, then the tracks showed that the bear quickly turned and ran off. Evidently when the bear's wet nose touched the wire he got a pretty good bite.
Another time in the middle of the night, we heard my horses running through the electric wire, and away from camp. The tracks in the snow showed a large set of moose tracks going through the wire on one side of the meadow, and the horses going out the other side. The next day, I found the horses two miles away. I think it was a rutting bull moose that thought my horses were cow moose.
