Thanks, that's what they look like in the pictures but I haven't laid my hands on one yet.

I own a 1976 "Year of American Liberty" model 257 Roberts. It is a long action and in excellent shape I might add.

All of the cataloged Ruger 77s in 257 Roberts were long actions. If you want 257 Roberts performance in a short action 77, the 25 Souper will fill the bill, I have 1 built on a SA 77 RSI.

Mine (mfg in 1989) is a long action and I don't think they have made a short action.

Nice thing about the long action is it allows you to maximize performance by seating the bullets out.

Thanks, all.

For myself, I'd rather have the long action but I'm looking for a rifle for my Mom/wife to use and would like a short action. The more I look at the Nosler book, the more a 260 interests me for that purpose.

If you're going with a SA .264" bore rifle, you might consider the 6.5 Creedmoor, since the shorter case will allow you to shoot longer bullets without COAL issues, if shooting longer bullets is important to you, your wife, or your daughter. Me, I'm so far into the 260 and don't shoot bullets weighing over 130 grains too often, so the 6.5 Creedmoor doesn't provide any COAL advantage.

CFVA,

If you are interested I have scan of a comprehensive R77 in 257 Roberts product review from a gun mag. It relates to the Hawkeye however.

PM me with your email address if so.

Thanks to everyone for the info, and I appreciate the offer, Bob.

I found a Mark II Compact in 260 locally so I went that route, trying to round up reloading supplies now.
