Spring bear opens tomorrow and I was up today for one last practice session out to 600...I had a 10x SWFA SS on my pre 64 mod 70 but wanted a more "hunting" type scope so bought a 4x12 Redfield Revenge a couple weeks ago to play with..Straight duplex..

I know its a cheap scope, but so far I can find no fault with it..Tracks and returns to zero with no problems...So far anyway..

After I was done I decided to stretch out much farther than I have ever shot...A rock I had been watching all morning at 1120..

3 shots,3 hits and the Redfield tracked perfectly..Before I was done I checked my 200 yard zero and it was right...

Bear tomorrow..

Hoping to get a few reports on the Redfield scopes since Leupold owns them now. Considering putting a Redfield on a couple rifles and want some feedback before making the leap.

Good luck on the hunt, where are you going?

I say BS. The bullets for the .270 suck for longrange and drop like bird turds wink

And bears with a .270? They will bounce right off.

Check out how much speed and energy a 270 has left at that range.

It's got to at least be more than that of a .45 caliber nostalgic weapon, anyway.

Bob,

I will be hunting in the Siuslaw unit...I usually see 20 plus bears every spring...I also know that 1100 yds is out of hunting range, unless you are hunting rocks... smile

The load is 57gr IMR 7828 with a 150 Sierra...I haven't been playing with long range very long...But I amazed myself yesterday..LOL

Last years bear..

laugh No way, antique rifle and cartridge. No VLD's whats up with that? Good job Santiam... grin

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

That's a nice bear Santiam.

I've been using the 140gr Accubond at medium range. No kills, other than steel and rocks.

The Redfield Revenge has resettable turrets..I have not owned it long enough to reccomend one...Give me a year or so..LOL

I see a lot of bears out at 500 and 600 yards which is why I started to think about the long range game, particularly a monster I seen last year 3 times about 600...No way to get closer so I just watched him...

I did see a little bear yesterday..

Here is a even bigger bear I killed a few years back with my brother filming...Of course I used my 270.. smile
