Looks like a Smith model 10 or 12 with a 2" barrel to me.

The Real Hawkeye; While it's got to be at least a couple decades since I've last seen a Cannon episode, I just peered at a couple youtube video clips to twig my memory. In at least one of the clips I viewed it surely looks like a S&W Model 36 to me. I can't recall seeing the ejector rod sticking out on any episodes, so I don't think a Detective Special was ever used, but then again it wouldn't surprise me if the prop guy substituted whatever they grabbed first. Anyway, TRH that's as close as I can see it and recall it. All the best to you in the upcoming week TRH. Regards, Dwayne Edit; I believe Crimson Tide is correct now that I look at it again. The frame looks too big for a Model 36. For the life of me I can't make it out on the videos and when I attempt to enlarge it, it just gets more blurry!

I remember a Colt 1911 in a couple of episodes. In one (I was a kid when it aired) a devious guy stole the magazine out of the pistol. A bit later Cannon is holding a gun on the guy, who smirks and says, "your gun is empty!". Cannon points the pistol to the side, fires one shot, and says, "I always carry a spare clip"

tex n cal; I can't say that I recall that episode, but then again there seems to be a lot of the '70's that are no longer clear to me. As a general statement from my youth, I seem to recall that Magnum PI was one of the first TV shows where it crossed my mind the lead actor might have a clue as to how to handle firearms. Now of course that didn't prevent any of them from spraying a full auto from the hip on occasion, but Tom Selleck seemed to handle the 1911 reasonably close to correct - or so I recall thinking back when. All the best to you in the upcoming week tex n cal. Regards, Dwayne

I have to put my glasses on and squint a little, but I am nearly certain that the revolver in his hand has a six shot cylinder in it. That would make it a K frame. I am sure that is a Smith and Wesson muzzle.

That said and I'm loathe to admit it here, but I already had my "cheaters" on when I was trying to figure out what he had in his hand. This getting older thing isn't as much fun as I'd been led to believe. Another thought in favor of your pick is that William Conrad was a pretty fair sized chap and a 36 would have looked pretty small in his hand. Well it might have to someone who didn't need reading glasses to see the TV perhaps! All the best to you and yours in the upcoming week sir. Regards, Dwayne

I don't know, but I always liked the way he'd "poke" the gun at whoever he was shooting every time he pulled the trigger.

I did a search on it and also looked it up on IMDb's Guns site. It wasn't listed and I couldn't find any exact references to the model in the search.
My first thought was a 2" model 10.
