I just ran the numbers through a couple of computer programs, and that bullet actually should stabilize nicely in a 1-16 twist.
Since it does, it should also continue to stabilize at any range where it stays above 1300 fps or so--and at 200 it will still be close to 2000 fps.
One common misconception of bullet stability is that bullets become less stable as they slow down. Actually, the opposite is true, since the rate of spin doesn't drop much, while air pressure on the front end of the bullet (which is what causes instability) decreases considerably.
This remains true until the velocity drops to 1300 fps, the "transonic range," at the upper edge of the speed of sound, when weird things start to happen.

What's the minimum in OK?
Here in Montana you can legally shoot big game with anything you want. There was a .23 caliber minimum years ago, but eventually the regulators gave up, apparently finally figuring out that most all hunter would use something that worked.

Sorry, all this gun talk and I had to run out to the shop and finish up loading up a few pieces of 38-55 WCF that were waiting on the bullets that came in today.
Oklahoma minimum is a 55 grain soft point bullet.

May have to try some of those in my Hornet once I get the TSX's shot up, can't legally deer hunt with it anyway with the sub 55 gr bullets.
May as well load up some little bombs and smoke some crows and coyotes/bobcats and the like with it.

Your post put me to thinking Bea, went snooping around in the reloading shop this morning and damn if I didnt find three boxes of 100 count 40 gr ballistic tips.
Maybe they will work in the Hornet, seems to me they act a bit harder than the V-Maxes.

I still have 5 lbs of WW680 for my Hornet & K-Hornet Since the sod rats died off here I don't shoot them much anymore. Back when GunList was a going publication before the innanet I lucked into 1100 new unprimed RP brass for $80 shipped.

I see 13 grains of Lil Gun is at the rim but more importantly I see Nosler #7 lists 11.0 grains as a 40 grain max and 10.0 grains as the max for the 34/35 grain bullet. Mule Deer, can you help here? Is this a "lawyer load" or did the Lil Gun recipe change? Why did the max powder go down with the lighter bullet when all others on the same page went up? Just starting out on my 22 Hornet and CZ 527.

That's important, if it's one of those lead-free varieties, they will be much longer than a leaded 40, and bearing surface can build pressure as quick as bullet weight.
