I have an old Model 1895 in .303 British that has been D&T'd at the rear left of the receiver; the hole spacing appears about right for the base for a Williams or Lyman receiver sight but is a bit crooked.
I've been thinking about installing a repro Lyman 21; does someone know the hole spacing for that sight? I e-mailed Buffalo Arms, a dealer, but can't telephone them from work.

Providence Tool Company makes them. They should be able to help you.

Providence's reply: 3.500 in.from the center of the bolt pin acess hole to the locking lever stud hole.
Just in case anyone wonders!

Good to know. I've been shoping for a decent '95 and notice a fair amount are D&T for the Lyman 21 but the sight's missing on most. I've always been partial to the "climin' Lyman" as my fathers deer rifle (Win 64 carbine) was so equipped.

Some eedjit drilled the holes for mine at 3.4 inches. There is nowhere really to drill a rear hole as it will overlap an existing hole, so I am stuck with a Lyman 66 or a huge repair job.

Don't know where your D&T holes are, but the rear hole for the Lyman is lower on the receiver than the front. Most of the one I see are drilled almost in line with the second line of patent dates stamped in the receiver. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=340575055
Maybe you could drill below the existing holes? I don't think it would matter on the Lyman as long as you keep the center to center dimension.

My holes are drilled on the first patent line. Just too close, no sense Swiss-cheesing the receiver. That's fine, it's a really nice shooter-grade rifle but appears reblued so no collector value, though the new blue job is at least shiny, LOL!
I'll likely sell this one anyhow; just always wanted to try one. It is a slick action, I must say.
