I'm putting together a long range hunting rifle for an upcoming hunt in tajikistan. I have a weatherby accumark in .30-378, and a nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 for it. On most of my rifles I use conetrol rings and mounts, but for this setup I want something that will give me just a little more peace of mind. What base/ring combo would you guys recommend?

Near, NightForce, Badger or Seekins and shoot with confidence.

Leupold DD's
It's what I had on my exact rifle with a 4.5x15 LR Leupold

That Nightforce is a lot more substantial scope, much longer and heavier. I'd vote for Nightforce or similarly constructed base and rings.

Leupold DD's will handle it....that rifle hardly recoils with all it's weight and brake.
It's nowhere near as bad as people think.

Nightforce direct mount
If I could afford that scope, this is what I would use. Expensive, but worth it, IMO. I'm sure others would work, but since you have already opted for the best, might as well continue on that route way I see it.

I just bought my third set to put on my new 7mm Wby Mk V Ultra Lightweight. I don't have pictures of it yet, but it is the one piece titanium alloy mount on the picture that says "Copyright 2010 Near MFG" at the bottom of the picture here: http://www.nearmfg.com/products.htm
It's unbelievably strong and weighs less than 4 ounces.

There may be other great mounts out there, but these are the best I have ever seen or touched.

Here's the 3-ring Near Alphamount on my .375 Wby:

Since the NF only fits GD Remingtons, Near - absolutely amazing product.

thanks for all the info guys. I'm rolling with a setup from NEAR after reading nothing but great things. extra peace of mind is well worth a couple hundred bucks.

Taley mfg make a one piece rail directlly for the mark 5 in 0 or 20 moa. And the bolt pattern is the same on a mark vmand Remington 700 but for it to get a full surface fit you have to shim the rear .020 to make it fit the mark v correctly

just thought I'd update you guys with the final choice. We went with the NEAR Alphamount in the 3 ring model (on Richard's recommendation for this scope).

the dual recoil lugs fit perfectly and snug right into the action.

Needless to say, I am very happy. I thank you guys who recommended NEAR. I don't see myself using any other mounts in the future. Especially for the larger calibers.

Now off to the range this weekend to test out some Cutting Edge 200 gr MTH bullets. damn these suckers are long!
