Pat is the real deal. There are very few people I really take to heart what they have to say. He is one of the very few. He has been there, done that, and then some. It sure is a shame that all these internet hero's can run somebody with as much knowledge and experience as him off. Sad.

This.

Seems lots of folks stopped posting after the whole GregR FUBAR situation...not that I blame them. There was a lot of ridiculous BS speculation going on there.

The exception is Brad...(not concerning the GregR deal) I always saw him as a hypocritical jackass who couldn't read between the lines and see why so many folks despised him.

Dober and Scenar are however, great losses for everyone here.

I still talk to Dober on occasion. I believe he really got sick of the personal attacks, lack if respect and the number of idiots populating the campfire lately.
I really hope both Dober and Pat come back. As for Brad. I suspect he is just busy as he is building a house solo and he is also a home builder so summer is his busy time.

Well, I don't know who did or did not do what to whom, but, I have certainly witnessed many and totally uncalled for personal attacks here. I realize that those who do this are demonstrating certain aspects of their own mental health issues and after becoming familiar with the way such internet "commandos" behave, came to realize that reacting to such behaviour is both a waste of time and energy and also tends to encourage such essentially deranged behaviour...so, why bother?

Websites of this type CAN be of enormous value to hunters/shooters of ALL levels of experience and accomplishment, but, most of them seem to attract persons who obviously suffer from major "borderline personaliy disorder" and, after awhile, dealing with the rants of such individuals becomes simply not worth any effort.

I dunno what the answer to this issue may be, strict "moderation" requires a genuinely dispassionate and equitable person to make it work for all and then a site so administrated tends to lose it's originality and becomes just another boring boastfest or things continue as they have been here and all too often, some of the best contributors just leave....well, seems that is happening more frequently now.

The anonymity of the internet allows for some poor behavior without a doubt. Sift out the good stuff, don't participate in the bad stuff and the pissing contests. Waste of time and energy. I'll miss Pat and Dober, I'll read their posts elsewhere and enjoy the good parts of this forum. And as was said-I doubt anyone "ran" them anywhere...

Yeah, me too, it's a damn shame. I wouldn't even speculate on why he's not posting, it's none of my business. But from my own perspective, the stuff people post here is often over the top.

Back and forth personal insults between two or more guys don't bother me; that's their business. And frankly, when they're both knee-deep in it, neither one has a reason to complain.

But I do get tired of the racist, bigoted, misogynistic rants people post here. If anyone wants to reinforce the negative stereotypes of hunters and gun nuts, all they need to do is read the Hunter's Campfire.

Moderating this bunch could be a real chore. Rick does a good job with some of the worst trolls, but where do you draw the line?

I learn a lot from exchanges on the Fire and appreciate the input of people who really know their stuff. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of wannabes who disrupt with their attention seeking rants and personal insults.

To me, it's like eating chicken wings, you swallow the meat and spit out the bones... smile

Not everyone has the stomach for the ongoing stuff that so frequents the Fire.

We're all losers when Pat, Dober and people of that caliber and experience get fed up and take a hike.

I'm grateful to the ones who stick around, even with all those distractions.

I don't know Pat as well as a lot of you guys do, but I subscribed to his knowledge and experience sharing, and he was good enough to personally help me figure some things out a couple of times. Great guy in my book...

I contacted a mutual friend of ours who I believe is pretty close to Pat after seeing this post, as I was concerned about his general well being. He assured me that Pat was doing fine, and was very busy with his boys and baseball. That's good news that I'm pleased to share with you all.

I miss Pat's posts too, but as great as this place is, it ain't life. Pat is well and going about the business of living life, as I trust we all are, and I am comforted to know that.

cheers to all,
Jeff

Yup, you certainly have seen a bunch of uncalled for personal attacks... Lots of them under the pen-name kutenay... or are you forgetting those? Will take you just a second to find them if you go looking...

An awful lot can be learned here, especially after you lurk or participate long enough to figure out who has experience-based ideas and who likes to pound a keyboard. But some days the ratio of chaff to wheat is pretty discouraging. So it is especially sad when a good poster with lots of knowledge leaves, for whatever reason.

Scenar is a wealth of knowledge and I'll damn sure miss seeing his pictures and hearing his stories. He is the real deal and his posts were always among the first I'd read

Don't know why he bounced but it's none of our business so I hope everybody just respects the decision he made.

Let's be honest, time spent with family is much better than time spent on a computer

I have not met Pat, but have a good relationship with some who know him well. From their testimony, Pat is a legendary trapper, guide, hunter and marksman. Wish I lived closer and could observe him first hand.

He's the real deal and I love reading his post. I don't have much sympathy for distractors, those muddying the water for the rest of us. And those with the least to contribute are very often the ones making the most noise.

I think that a rational and equitable person here will see that the inchoate remarks I have made in past times were always in response to slurs upon Canada, or, comments about the allocation of Canada's resource wealth made by some foreigners with an agenda in this respect.

So, no, I do not feel that I have ...caused... problems, but, as with any aspect of the internet, you are free to hold whatever opinion you may wish to.

That said, once, I will not bother to respond to further such comments as this thread is not "mine" or about me and I have no wish to "hijack" it.

Funny, tho', but, whatever, not really worth a detailed reply.
